Re-posting a recent Munchkin video, then another I just took this morning. I've noticed a funny thing with her fur for such a long time now. I think I mentioned a long time ago she was scratching so bad, she made a bald, bloody spot on her back, and in general her fur looks sorta patchy, and not thick and full like the other's. I treated her way back around April or May with ivermectin, and the bald bloody patch cleared up, but got bad again around Aug/Sept. (I've got the notes and dates written down, I kept track). I gave her 3 or 4 doses, spread out longer than a week in between, sometimes 2 weeks in between. It's hard to get her to eat a dosed nut, and a couple times she ran off to hide it, which made me have a longer time before I ever tried dosing her again, as I feared her getting double dosed. Anyway, let me look at my notes...OK, between all of Sept and Oct, she had 4 ivermectin doses, the bald bloody patch has once again cleared up, but she just never seems to get all her fur filled in like everyone else?? Maybe you can tell in the videos? Winter's coming, and I wish her coat would fill in more. It makes her look haggard and scruffy, and I want her to have a warm, full coat. :(
(Now I'm not sure if I actually posted this recent Munchkin video, maybe not! Munchkin, Oct 2015)

FYI, not an emergency or anything, but I am still wondering about Munchkin's fur, and why it never seems to fill in and be complete and thick, like the others. Video of her in the above posting. :dono (Although, looking at her today, maybe her fur is looking a little bit better?? Still never looks as full as the other squirrels, though.)
New videos to post! First, two videos of one of the new little ones. This is the one that I believe is a little smaller than Buddy, and is lighter in color, and is more timid. I started calling this one Scredy Baby, and it's stuck in my head now. Don't know if "scaredy" is even a word, lol but that's the name, and that's the spelling! Not sure if boy or girl, either, but I hope these little ones stick around, and I find out in time. (Oh, and I discovered yesterday it looks like Scaredy Baby has a front paw boo boo. Hopefully not bad, but I detected a slight limp, poor baby. :( )

(Pay attention to her in this next one, lol! I thought for a moment she was afraid of the video camera, but turns out she just didn't want the walnut halves I was trying to give her!! She wanted a whole one in the shell, and she knows I have them inside. Spoiled little booger, but I love her!!)

Grand finale Munchkin Halloween video!! I took this two or three weeks ago, and sorry it's not a good, clear video, but this girl is so impatient, it can be hard to video her! Plus, I end up letting the camera hang while I try to find her a treat. I was just so excited to finally get video of her covered in cobwebs!!

:w00t great videos California Squirrel Lover
Not sure anyone got back to you on the patchy fur, I see it all the time here, when they lose some fur and get some new, it doesn't look concerning to me (but I'm not an expert). I have seen it on White Ears and Clara many different times/years and I would get worried and it would just grow back.
You are so lucky to have foxer babies there, couldn't be more special, I meant to tell you after viewing your first ones of the babies, I had a good dream that a foxer baby was in my house and I got to hold it :dance
Munchkin is such a very special beautiful foxer girl, loved to see her in your house and heading for the kitchen, she is so relaxed and trusting of you. I do wonder where she was to get that cobweb too :grin2

Hey tom, thanks for watching the videos!! Oh, I wish I could hold one of the babies, they're just so sweet. :serene
One bit of news, there IS a third baby!! Smaller than Buddy, but dark in color like Buddy. Scaredy Baby is lighter in color. I was able to get a couple videos of the newest darker baby yesterday, will post them soon. NEW LITTLE ONE WILL BE NAMED...Brownie. (So, we have Buddy, Scaredy Baby, and Brownie) :grin3 :Love_Icon:Love_Icon
One note of concern, Scaredy Baby IS indeed hurt, his front left paw. I could tell yesterday it's swollen, and he has a limp. Everyone keeps chasing the poor guy, so that's not helping in the healing. I hope he'll be ok. :(
Ya, I hope Munchkin's fur will fill in more, especially with it getting colder, and we even got RAIN overnight! I love my sweet girl. That wasn't the first time she's come in covered in cobwebs, either, and I wonder where she was. She's not too concerned with cleaning up, she's more focused on getting treats first!

He's squirrel perfection:klunk the videos all made my heart smile :thankyou Munchkin is a sweetheart :Love_Icon she is sooo trusting of you :Love_Icon it's lovely to see a wild knocking on the door :laugh2 about her fur...you know I'm wondering if whatever is bothering her skin never clears up all the way...I'm thinking about Fireweed's Solo...her fur was always "not right" and when she treated her again with ivermectin it cleared up. I really hate dosing animals with these meds :shakehead I just worry about what it may be doing to them...especially things like frontline:facepalm but sometimes it's the worser of two evils...so, I don't know if it's just better to leave her be until it flares up...or try and treat it again when it's in a dormant state (if indeed that's what's going on) :crazy1 a lot of help, right? :Love_Icon Love ya! :hug

Just watched the latest adorable Brownie videos, you are so lucky there to have young foxers trust you so much. I was also happy to see him take a long drink of the clean water you provided him, I often think that is the most important thing we can give them, clean water especially if it is dry or cold outside. Anyways I also loved the one in which he walked away with the big walnut, quite a grab :clap.

Hi MBT! :thankyou :grouphug Glad you enjoyed the videos! My sweet Munchkin is a "SHE", lol, and if I sit down on the steps, she'll come up and put her paws in my lap and take walnuts! She is truly my love. :Love_Icon:Love_Icon Baby Brownie is hilarious, I'm having so much fun with him and the other babies. :serene (oh ya, you heard the crows, lol!)

Hi Sweeper! :thankyou I'm glad you got to see the newest little ones, aren't they adorable?! :Love_Icon:Love_Icon Brownie is such a rich, deep color, and just this little bitty furry cuteness, AND, runs up the back steps looking up at the door!
You know, about Munchkin, I think her fur is looking better, certainly better than before, and the bald spot where she kept scratching and would get a bloody spot has cleared up. I'm hoping the doses of Ivermectin back in Sept and Oct did the trick. I certainly will keep an eye on it, and I always check her out as much as I can every time I see her. Sending love right back at you! :grouphug:grouphug

Baby Brownie was looking for a handout again a little bit ago, lol, so I grabbed the video camera. No need to tell me I don't have the greatest "videoing" skills, lol, but it's hard to video these guys as they jump all over the place, wanting me to hurry up and give them a walnut! First is Brownie, then one of the big boys, then another boy (I think) came along.
By the way, this is important to note!! I would bet you guys one of the big boys who started coming around a few weeks ago, being bossy and trying to take over the yard, is one of the ButchKins! Just a guess on my part, and maybe just a wish, but MAN, he's fluffed up for winter, and looks huge like Butch!! It gets confusing, because a couple of them in particular have really fluffed up for winter, and I have trouble figuring out who is who sometimes. However, Little Man has a white tummy, plus is way sweeter with me than the other huge boy. I'm sure I've confused you all by now, sorry!
today's video, Brownie, Huge Boy and another boy, LOL, aren't my descriptions GREAT?!

Just checking in. I had not taken any pics in such a long time, (been taking videos), that I've forgotten how to get them from my camera to the computer then onto here, lol! I wanted a brand new pic of Munchkin for the squirrel calendar, so the other day I tried taking a few of her. After I remember how to post the pics from my camera, I'll show you. She's so hard to get pics of, she's a maniac these days, only wanting nuts to hide and won't sit still for a moment. Oh, except for all of a sudden this morning, when she decided to just sit there and eat...and eat...and eat...but I didn't have my camera handy!!! I got ONE pic of her the other day that I thought might be worthy of the calendar, and I want your opinions...when I remember how to get them on here!!
We had one good rain a week ago, and another one in the middle of the night last night. No more rain for now, and it's FREAKIN' COLD AND WINDY!! Since the seasons started changing a few weeks ago, and even more now, I suddenly have squirrels coming out of the woodwork, all running to me at once for treats! I've been trying to look for clues as to who everyone is, but it's just so hard, especially since many have their new winter coats and look so different. I've got all these fuzzy bears running around, going absolutely nuts, chasing each other as they all want the treats. It's chaos. PLUS, today is super creepy with the crows, it looks like a scene from that movie "The Birds" out there! I opened the back door, and I swear, I've never seen so many crows here at once! They had eaten the bowls of my crew's avocado, and were all grabbing and tossing the empty bowls! It was so many, it was just CREEPY. I grabbed the spray bottle and sprayed them with water, but they're sticking around. At this moment, I have three bowls of avocado out there, but hidden under the barrels and under a bench, so TAKE THAT CROWS!
GO RAIDERS!!!

A lot of people would want your crows (like me) to keep away the hawks. Coincidentally, I had some crows yesterday but instead of eating food I threw near them, they hassled Clara for her nut but she just ignored them.
Here in Michigan today it was 70, unbelievable this time of year, what was weird there were fewer squirrels hanging out.
Good luck with the Munchkin photo shoot.

Ah Ha! That's where our warm weather went, it came YOUR way!! Enjoy! I miss it. :(
Now that I finally have a decent phone, with a "real" camera, lol, I finally get it. This thing takes pretty good pics!! Plus, I've discovered it's the only way to get some good, close up pics of Munchkin. She's not a fan of my big camera, and it never seems to work out. HOWEVER, both yesterday morning and today, Munchkin sat right next to me on the back steps, and we hung out for quite a while together. I have a better shot at this if I break up some walnuts into small pieces, so she'll sit with me and eat. If I give her walnut halves, she'll take off to hide them. So, both days she sat right next to me and ate and ate, while I took all kinds of pics and video with my phone. SUCCESS!! Close up Munchkin pics!! :bliss You can use pics from your phone for the TSB calendar, right??

The video doesn't do them justice, they are so deeply colored on their tummies, and look so small and cute. They were just here at the same time, and I had to take a double take! One's eating avocado, while the other picky block. Healthy eaters, I love it!!!

They're all so cute, I just can't stand it!! One of the Brownies came back and ate another half of a picky block. Now I have Buddy and Scaredy Baby out there, both ate a picky block. So sweet.
You know, I mentioned a few weeks ago Scaredy Baby had hurt one of his front paws. I think he's doing better, but I can tell it's still not fully healed. He's had a little swelling, and a bit of a limp. He always continued to hold his food, so I know he could still use it, but perhaps like a bad sprain or something? I know it could have been a lot of things, but I thought the way the bigger ones were chasing him, he hurt it trying to run away, or jumping? He's so sweet, and although still cautious, I can tell is getting to know me, and comes for treats. I always feel bad when any of them get hurt, but he's still so young, I hate to see him start out with an injury.

Unfortunately being a squirrel, you are very seldom just sitting around, a lot of moving about so injuries to paws/legs will probably take longer to heal (as their not properly resting it). Have great hopes (and big wishes) the little one Scaredy Baby fully recovers in time.
It's wonderful (and deserving) that you have so many sweet little ones running around now.

:thankyou tom! That's true, kinda hard to heal when you need to use your paw constantly. I do think he's doing better, just taking a long time, and I can tell it's not fully healed. Scaredy Baby eats his Picky Block and avocado, in fact he just ate a whole block and some avocado just a few minutes ago, so maybe that will help him out a bit. He's so sweet. :serene

You will probably have to start leaving the key under the mat for Munchkin, looks like she could manage :w00t
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone there, hope you had many visitors enjoying the treat feast. Odd weather here (cold/rainy in morning, warm windy in afternoon, WE was here until dark)
P.S.: Yes, the Lions managed to win but if I had their record I would be embarrassed to celebrate :grin2

First 4 are of Munchkin this morning, and are in order. I love my sweet girl. FYI, there were many fuzzers running around, up on the trellises, in the bottlebrush tree and lemon tree, and that's why Munchkin is so preoccupied, listening and figuring out who and where everyone was. :grin3:Love_Icon:Love_Icon

:( I hope no squirrels were hurt and that thee is no structural damage to your garage!
thank you. no, i'm pretty sure no one was hurt, especially not with this particular limb that fell. it's a big one, but not one with a nest, it's sort of a lower limb, lower than where the nests are. had 2 companies come out, actual companies with arborists. waiting for estimates and will figure out what to do. i know it's just life, stuff happens, i just get so incredibly stressed out and sort of frightened when "stuff" happens. :(
i was relieved to see some of my regulars, just to know they're ok.
(hoping no damage to garage roof, but it's partially laying across the roof, and partially laying right on top of our acacia tree back there just behind the garage, and one tree guy went back around it and said it looks like the limb broke off the main top branch of the acacia. :( )

OMG, out of nowhere, I mean out of nowhere, the sky just opened up, the winds and rains just started, and that tree limb is still crashed onto the top of the garage. Nobody was able to take care of it yet, every tree service is swamped. Ya, I know I'm freaking out a bit, but if anybody is up to helping me pray no more limbs break off our tree, please help me with that. I love that tree, so many of my fuzzers rely on that tree, I don't want anything to happen to it. I hate high winds, they just are scary to me. :(

We were awakened at 2am this morning, by the most intense storm, that really freaked me out. Wind, hail, thunder and lightening, the works. I was scared for my babies out there, and for the tree limb, which was still laying and hanging, on top of our garage. The company came this morning and got if off the roof, and had to leave it all back there, and will return Monday to finish. Tree companies are off the hook busy around here. So, it did in fact take off the entire top of our lovely acacia tree back there :(. Going to have another guy we know come look at it. The squirrels were freaked, I'm sure, by the guys with chainsaws up there, poor pookies, but some came running to me as soon as the tree guys left. I still have not seen my girl Munchkin today, and after the frightening storm last night, I really need to see her and know she's ok. I think we have more storms coming in the next couple days...
Munchkin was just here, so I know she's ok. Yes, I was praying all night my babies and that tree would be ok. :)

Thanks so much for checking in, I appreciate it! Been very stressed this week, with the storms, and this tree limb falling, etc. They got the limb cut from the main trunk, and off the garage roof, but it's all still sitting across the yard. They were swamped with emergency tree work, and have to finish the removal tomorrow, THEN, are fitting us in later in the week to trim back the tree entirely...big job.
As soon as they were done with cutting on Friday, and they left, immediately I had several of my crew come running to me from every direction, looking for treats, and I'm sure thinking "what the heck was all that scary noise?!" I was so glad to see them all.
Please, please, say some prayers that no more tree limbs ever break from this tree, EVER, and everything goes well here. The incredibly mean neighbor on the one side of us was once again out in her yard, taking video of our tree, clearly out to make more trouble. I never mentioned how bad it's gotten with her, not only screaming and fighting with her husband, but also turned her screaming to US a while back. She's an alcoholic, and a violent one at that, and really went too far when she turned her anger toward us. My husband tried talking to her husband, and made it clear he needs to keep her away from us. Anyway, it only adds to the stress, feeling like we're constantly being watched and even videoed.
Any prayers for protection and peace at my place would be more appreciated than you'll ever know. :grouphug:grouphug:grouphug
p.s. AND it's storming again now

OK my friends, I'd love some prayers for safety for tomorrow's big tree trimming. The arborist and I already spoke about the squirrel nests up in the tree, he was pointing with his laser pointer, lol, which is good. We both agreed on a couple spots that are just little remainder pieces of branch where nests used to be, and are not being used, and the big ones up high, that definitely look like they are being used. I'm going over all that with them again in the morning, just to be clear, and to be safe. I want this to be over and done with, and done SAFELY AND PROPERLY, for the sake and safety and health of the tree and my crew, and the tree cutters, too. I could use all the prayers I can get, and really appreciate it. To top things off, it now looks like the rain is coming TOMORROW, instead of Saturday, but I sure hope the weather people are wrong. Tree cutters are starting earlier now, like 8am tomorrow. :grouphug:grouphug:grouphug:grouphug:grouphug:grou phug:grouphug:grouphug:grouphug:grouphug:grouphug: grouphug:grouphug

So, there is a new rat around, and this one is more assertive to try and get food. Just today, I noticed he came running out and tried repeatedly to get the nut away from different members of my crew. Freaked me out. I stomped my foot and chased him away, but he returned, and tried again. He acted a bit like I've seen squirrels do, sort of doing a jump kick in the air and trying to grab the nut away, although unsuccessful. He jumped and kinda grabbed Munchkin's tail, but she took off. Good grief. The sky is growing dark, the winds are getting a bit scary, and a storm is heading our way. It's only the first of what's supposed to be a few storms all week, with the winds apparently getting more dangerous come Tues and Wed. Great. You know how I hate the high winds. :( So, we've got an aggressive rat and high winds...just not how I'd like to start the new year!! :grouphug:grouphug:grouphug

Thank you everyone for your kind words. :grouphug:grouphug:grouphug Still no Munchkin. :( I miss my girl terribly. Yes, I thought there was mating going on around the time I last saw her, I kept hearing that very particular sound when a male is relentlessly chasing a female. It wasn't Munchkin, it was a different female who I kept seeing getting pursued by a male. There's also been major work being done on the next block over, keeping the block closed to through traffic and parking for weeks now, and will go on until mid Feb, as the street is torn up putting in some type of new pipes. (lots of jackhammering and noisy work) I hope and pray my sweet girl is ok and still out there.
January is the same time of year when my sweet Missy, and her mother Serena long before that, both disappeared. I always figured both those girls moved further away, because in both instances, they had a few litters of babies, then vanished. I did eventually see Missy a year after she disappeared, but then that seemed to be it. I assumed that after having a certain amount of babies, a mama might move further away, so as not to have too many offspring living together so close in the same area?? That was my theory, anyway. Now that the rain and storms have stopped, I'm going to take some walks around different blocks, and make some noise as I walk along (clacking walnuts together, a noise Munchkin knows so well), to see if I see anyone. I've been trying not to think about it too much, so I don't cry. :(

Aww CSL :Love_Icon I know it's hard....you know I always miss my Sweet P ...but sometimes when I think of Matti and Chick :shakehead you remember how sweet they were...well it's just too much....I hate knowing what happened to Sweet P and I hate not knowing what happened to Matti and Chick...and the lil boy and girl I released with Baby :facepalm that's why I think rehabbing...right now is not for me :( it hurts way too much...my wild's all look alike....so I don't really know who's missing and who's not. I'm sure Munchkin is ok...she probably made a drey and had to protect it till her babies were born...and you know how devoted they are...they hate leaving the nest in the beginning ....when you do see her she's going to be starving :grin3 try and concentrate on your regulars now...are the brownies still coming around? Then one day you'll have a pleasant surprise :grin3 Munchkin :Love_Icon :please that's what I'm praying for....wouldn't mind seeing Butch and Scrawny Guy...Prince either :Love_Icon

Oh goodness CSL, I'm so sorry to hear that you haven't seen sweet Munchkin in awhile.:( I can't help but wonder if it really does have something to do with mating season and all that noise going on in your area lately - I would think that would be unnerving for wild animals that rely heavily on their hearing in day to day life. Lenny doesn't even like to come out when the wind is blowing because I think it interferes with his hearing a little. I know you must miss her terribly. I will be praying for a Munchkin sighting soon.:grouphug

Hi everyone. Still no Munchkin. Don't want to talk about it. I miss her terribly. Gonna cry already, so I'll stop. :sad
When I came home today, after being gone only about an hour or two, I found what I assume is a pool of blood, on the ground below the cabana barrel. Found drops of it around the yard, as well. As I walked around looking for drops or a trail, several of my babies came running to me for treats. Not one of them seemed to notice the blood, as they ran up to me for treats, one even stood in the puddle of blood, standing up wanting a treat! Is that odd? Do they, or should they, notice blood, or smell it?? Something happened out here while I was gone, that's for sure. There was even one tiny droplett of blood on one of the back steps. I walked all around the yard, looking under things even, trying to see if there was an injured animal somewhere, but found nothing. I don't know what to think, but I don't like it. :( :grouphug:grouphug:grouphug

So sorry California Squirrel Lover
I watched video and like others have commented, impossible to know what happened other than some large bird or small animal was probably bleeding. My first thought is the bastard hawk but really we will probably never know.
My own feeling is that sweet Munchkin is well somewhere, may have relocated if there are predators in the area.
You know how foxers are, they can disappear for close to a year sometimes and then suddenly show up, almost all mine have done that to me. Remember too, it may be mating season (as it is here for sure) and that can drive them into different areas.
My best wishes for a near future reunion.

Thank you tom, sweeper, tubedriver. :grouphug:grouphug:grouphug I hate not knowing what happened and who's blood it is. :(
I hope more than anything you're right, and my sweet girl is still out there somewhere. The fact that they began major jackhammering street work the block adjoining ours, plus a few houses up had a major tree trimming of a gigantic tree, has me hoping these could be reasons she moved away. I DID see her right after the neighbor's tree trimming, so I know she was still ok at that point. My only other hope is that perhaps she moved further away to have a new litter of sweet ones.
I'll always hope and pray she's ok. She's one of my very greatest loves. :Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon

Checking in to say hi. :grouphug:grouphug:grouphug
I miss my sweet girl :( Munchkin's one of a kind. :Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon I've still got my other regulars, and they've been weathering the many rain storms pretty well, it seems. Today is our first dry day in a while, and it's supposed to stay dry all week. We have had some CRAZY storms this month, after having an almost completely dry month in February. This month has brought heavy, heavy rainstorms with high winds, and lots of snow up north in Lake Tahoe.
The last time I posed on here, it really brought up some of my sadness regarding missing Munchkin. Whether something happened to her, or she just relocated, she's still gone from my daily life, and I finally let myself just feel it and have a huge cry. I even looked through my video camera, and found some Munchkin footage that I took around last Nov or maybe Dec, that I never posted. I found a second video of her jumping in my lap for a treat, which just made me laugh as I cried. I'll have to post it here sometime. :grouphug:grouphug:grouphug

Hi everyone, I'm still here!! I know it's been a while, so I finally decided to check in. I've missed you all. First and foremost, when Munchkin stopped coming to visit around last Christmas, I just lost that oomph to post. It's not that I've been a hermit and sitting here depressed all this time or anything like that, it's just I've been missing that spark or that energy to talk squirrel. It was also too hard to read about any injuries or losses on here, I just didn't want to know those things, you know what I mean? I love all my squirrels dearly, it's just Munchkin was that one in a million that I can't believe I got to befriend. The way she'd sit with me and let me pet her was just so special, and I'll always miss her.
It's hard to remember, so much time has passed, but I think it was around the time she and many others left (disappeared), that a certain someone moved in here and became a regular. From the moment I saw this one, I thought, oh my gosh, THAT is a ButchKin!! I also noticed right away, that I could not see boy parts, but that can be hard to tell, so I just watched and waited. This someone has been a regular ever since, and the very large body, larger than any of my other squirrels, AND the very bossy, in charge of the yard behavior, added to my thinking this absolutely had to be one of the ButchKins. Large, and light in color just like Butch, and super bossy, just like both Butch and Munchkin. Remember for a long time I thought Munchkin was a boy, because she was SO bossy and chased everyone away. I thought Munchkin was an alpha male until the day I freaked out, seeing big nipples popping out from her fur! Well, it was like that with this ButchKin. The bossiness and pacing the perimeter of the fence around the yard, the way Butch did, made me think it had to be a male. Nope, it's a girl, and she's got big nipples popping out and if I'm not mistaken, I don't think she's had the babies yet! I've toyed with the idea of this having to be a ButchKin for probably close to a year now, and I do believe she is, and I do believe this is her first litter, as it's the first time I've seen evidence. So, I'm going to show you some recent videos of her....if I can remember how to post the videos... :serene
See what you think of her...

BABY!! I JUST SAW A LITTLE BABY IN THE YARD!! I think I got a short video. Oh my gosh, haven't seen a little bitty one in so long. ButchKin was in the yard along with maybe 4 others, everyone wanted a snack, ButchKin was her usual self chasing everyone, but she finally stopped to sit still and eat, as I was trying to toss walnut pieces to everyone. So everyone was sitting in different spots around the yard eating, when I see a little bitty someone jump down from the lemon tree and run around exploring!! I couldn't believe my eyes. Little one ran up to ButchKin all excited, but ButchKin was kinda like get away from me kid and kept eating. Baby nuzzle ButchKin 's belly then ran off and found a piece of Picky Block I had tossed and was eating it!! I'm typing this on my phone by the way, please don't ask me how or why I can sign in with my phone now. I'm wondering if every time I tried and failed to log on here with my,phone, if I was entering my CSL name wrong, with or without spaces in between my user name. Anyway, forgive me if autocorrect totally screws up some of my words. I just could not wait to tell u all I saw a baby!! So much for me wondering if ButchKin had her babies
yet.:Love_Icon.
That WOULD have had to be ButchKin's baby, right? If it went up to her and kinda tried to get close to her belly? I figured it was her baby, and baby tried to see if she'd let them nurse?? :grouphug

I totally neglected to mention that I DO in fact have other females, besides ButchKin. For sooooo long I seemed to have mostly males, but I do have some females who are regulars, and I think at least a couple appear to be nursing moms, or recently were nursing moms. I just got so confused, because ButchKin is so huge, and to me could easily look as if she has not had her babies yet, BUT, now I'm thinking she's just always been a big girl, and always will be?? The other females, you can tell don't look pregnant anymore, the way ButchKin kinda does. So, you can see how I was thrown off...and still am, LOL, but that's nothing new. :skwredup But I keep going back to the way the baby ran up to ButchKin yesterday, and thought perhaps a baby would not do that to a strange squirrel, but only to it's own mother??
I have two short videos from today, and in keeping with my confusion, it's either the same female, or two different females, LOL, but I saw nipples in both cases. I think it might be two different girls, because I have one with sort of that "dirty face" , and one without. Plus I know I have a really darker colored mama, but she's not in these videos. This was all a long way to tell you all that I do have other nursing females, in addition to ButckKin!!! :tongue3

I saw the smaller baby climbing in the bottlebrush right outside my window! So cute :serene He/she seemed to be exploring and licking the bottlebrush flowers! :Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon Then I saw a baby coming out from under a barrel, where I had put a few walnuts. These babies caught on QUICK as to where to treats are. In the past, it was sometimes quite a while before they'd venture out all the way to the part of the yard near our back door and the cabana area, lol
Here are 2 videos from the other day, when the smaller one found the avocado. I have stainless steel bowls I usually use for them, but when I saw the opossum that day, and then the rat babies, I temporarily switched to little paper plates, so I can just throw them away. I do wash their steel bowls, but for now it's just easier to use paper.

I'm behind with videos!! I also need to find my regular camera and try to remember how to upload pics!! I forgot, been too long. That's why I've been showing videos!
After much talk about a big rain storm coming, we got some rain yesterday, NOT a storm, but some rain. My babies were in their first rain!! How I worry. Cloudy all day today, then at 5:30 this afternoon we got a harder rain...and the wind I hate. All calm now. More tomorrow.
I got worried, when at just about 7pm and darkening fast, one of my females was at the back door! Well, she was ON the back door. She's the only one who jumps onto the screen and bangs til I come to the door. Poor love, it was dark!! She always wants a whole nut in the shell, which I gave her, and she took off. Lord, PLEASE keep her and all my sweet ones safe!! :grouphug :Love_Icon :grouphug :Love_Icon

Ok I'm freaking out, just got home, greeted by some of my crew including some babies. I have an injured baby! An eye injury. The injured eye is totally closed, so how do I even know if the eye is still there. They were still running around, and I successfully tossed them a Picky Blick. My babies are still so small! I'd hate the thought of this being a severe permanent injury on one so young. What do I do??!

Three babies and ButchKin are here this morning, so I'm back to my original thought that these three are hers. The extra little ones I saw I assume belong to another mama. That's my theory for the moment.
I gave picky blocks to all three babies, and tried to see from a distance if any looked injured. None had an eye closed, but one was sitting funny, one foot looked like it was on it's heel, maybe not putting full weight on it. So for right now, I'm guessing he's the one who got hurt. This is my hope, because the eye is not swollen shut anymore, and that would be a good thing.
I'll keep looking and post any updates. Thanks for your help! :grouphug:grouphug

Ok, a little one just came running around the corner to the nut bowl, holding up a front paw as he ran. I'm assuming it's the same little one, and he got hurt head to toe. He's still running around, so I would think and hope he'll be fine, and I hope heal quickly.

I'm questioning what I saw with one of the babies this morning. I'm wondering if he could have had a seizure or something right in front of me. Not sure what they look like, but it was the first thing I thought of. He was eating, and when Little Man ran past him to come to me, I don't know if he got startled? He suddenly stretched out with one arm extended farther than the other in a sort of waving motion, and his whole body was flipping around and around in a circular motion. Not like running in circles, but his body was stretched out long and spinning. It was like nothing I've ever seen. Then he stopped and it was done.
I'd appreciate any of your thoughts. :grouphug:grouphug:grouphug

Yes, it's one of the babies, but not the one with the eye injury, and not the one with the hurt paw. This is yet another baby, and im not sure if this is part of the same litter or not?? I saw no sign of injury in this one, but something caught my eye about him while I watched him eat. Not sure what. I felt some kind of concern for him before he even did the spinning thing. Hard to explain. He's small, and I thought something in his eyes seemed a bit tired looking or something?? And something about how he held his food. It's so hard to explain, I'm sorry.

I was thinking the same thing lennysmom. Head trauma can cause them to circle.
Head trauma can also cause seizures.
This does sound like it could have been a seizure.
As lennysmom suggested a video of him would help a lot,
even if it's not of a seizure, but we may be able to pick up

Not sure if this matters, but he wasn't going in circles, as in walking or turning in circles. I'm trying to think how to describe it. He was stretched out long, laying down, with one arm outstretched and moving like waving, with his entire laid out body turning around and around like a chicken turns on a rotisserie. I haven't seen the little "seizure " one yet. I feel so bad for him. It turned colder yesterday, and today has turned dark, cloudy and windy, with a supposed rain storm moving in this afternoon. He just looked too little and unwell to be out there on his own. I've no idea if he is actually on his own, or who he belongs to, but I keep thinking, if something is wrong with him, was he most likely booted from the nest by his mother? :(
On top of that, one of the other little ones has a bad looking eye. I'm trying to figure out if it's the one who had the eye injury last week, and it's looking worse, or is this a different squirrel/injury?! I'm having a hard time getting video, but will keep trying. :shakehead

Well, I think it's just the one baby that has an eye injury. It started looking different, which was why I thought it might have been a different squirrel. I just saw him, and im pretty sure the "different" look his eye started to have, is because he's losing vision in that eye. I suppose time will tell if he'll lose some or all vision in that eye? This morning I put out two bowls of avocado before I even saw anyone. A while later I opened the back door, and the area was just crawling with babies!! It was hilarious and beyond adorable. I THINK I saw five?? I'm still not sure about which are siblings. :thinking Well, I know some are a little bigger, some smaller, but I know it's not that simple. I'll talk to them, see if they tell me anything :grin3
One important thing to share: I believe one of the smaller of the bunch this morning, was the little one that did the weird spazing (possible seizure?) the other day!! He is definitely different, he came up the back steps to me!? He came inside the doorway. The other babies are much more cautious. I gave him half a henrys block, and he sat in front of me on the top step to eat. I GOT A VIDEO! I will download it and post it soon, hopefully this weekend. I think the video is 6 minutes or more, because that's how long he was eating at the HALF a block. I thought that was odd, do you all agree or disagree? The other babies don't eat THAT slowly. :dono
AND I saw eye injured one. I see the eye is getting more closed, like how his Grandpa Butch's eye was. All babies are eating their henrys!! :thumbsup (they can EAT!!)

Hi peeps!
Memo to self, introduce new babies to Wild Blocks FIRST, before they've had Picky Blocks! I should have thought to video it, as I tried giving the babies Wild Blocks this morning. After much sniffing, they knew I had pulled a fast one on them. I took out some Picky Blocks for them, which they gobbled up. It was so funny. Man, I spoiled them pretty quickly, didn't I?!
I think they all seem to be doing well, even eye injured and the one I wasnt sure if he had issues.

I was having a good morning, feeding babies, but now I'm feeling a little worried. The little one, who I believe had a seizure or something that day, well I never saw anything like that again, but I did think he was different and kinda slower than the others. A little bit ago I opened the back door to go out, and saw him trying but unable to make the jump from where he was to the top of the fence, and he fell back down. I went over to find him crouched under the grill, just staying still. He had that SAME sort of sleepy look in his eyes as the day I saw him and the "incident". He was making some little tiny sounds, not exactly like sneezing, but sort of. He just looked out of it, but I didn't think it was just because he had come off the fence. I talked to him and put walnut pieces in front of him to see if he'd respond but he didn't take any. I wanted to video him to show you all, but when I went to get the camera, I came back and he was gone. The nuts were still there. I know he's a wild, these things happen, but I'm just feeling so bummed that something might be wrong with him.
I seem to keep calling him Peanut whenever I see him, so I decided that must be his name.

Darn it, you just can't get video of those funny, unpredictable moments!! The crew is in that mode of wanting to bury whole walnuts, from morning til night, but I'm trying to not give too many of those out (ya, right, good luck with that!!) RATS ARE BACK, I think even under the house, :crazy1:shakehead and I know the more whole nuts that get buried, the more the rats return. Lol, but I want to give my crew anything they want!!
Anyway, I just opened the back door to find my Little Man (who is so big with his winter coat), sort of up in the doorway, off the ground, clinging to the wood like in the doorway, trying to find a way in!! I looked at him and he just looked at me as he clinged to the doorway , with the funniest look. He looked like someone busted with breaking and entering!! Ya of course I gave him ANOTHER whole nut...:rofl4
I do love that boy :Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon

He really is just SO lovable! I'm terrible at remembering how long I've known anyone, but I know it's been a long time with Little Man. He was injured so badly when I first knew him, which is why his one foot can't curl and bend like the other one, but this is what formed our bond. He came daily for food, water (and echinacea), and got stronger and healed. He seemed to really trust me, and know that I was helping him. He's a special boy. :serene

I'm typing this on my phone, while uploading some videos onto the computer. I have a bad habit of taking videos and not posting them, then get overwhelmed with too many videos, and a very slow computer connection!! :stepaway

I'm not done uploading videos, but here are a few to start with
OK, here we go with videos
These are of little Peanut, from a few weeks ago. I guess around the time I said he had that "episode". First three are the oldest, it was on a rainy day. The longest is 2 minutes (not 6 minutes, like I had thought!) I tried to zoom in to show his feet, because he sometimes really curls or grips the ground while standing and eating. I found that a bit different. He's definitely a bit different. He's so sweet. :Love_Icon:Love_Icon

These show a small area on Peanut's head where, for a time, some fur was missing. Also see if you notice an area on the side of his body where he maybe possibly had an injury? The mark on the head and fur made me think maybe he did have an injury, which could have caused his seizure type episode?? I just wanted to show you, just to mention it and document it. I'm always trying to piece clues together.

Turns out I DO have a 6 minute video of Peanut eating a picky block. This must be from approx a month ago?? Something like that? Anybody who has time, please watch. I thought around 4 minutes in, when he turns so you can see his other side (his left side), it looked like he may have in fact had a head injury? The area where he lost a little bit of fur, looks like it had been injured, maybe?

He does have some type of injury to his head in that video. He definitely stands a bit different and even holds food in a somewhat unusual manner. He seems somewhat "off" but he looks to be getting by?

Sorry I watched the videos last night and thought I commented. :dono
I do notice the toes curling when he stands, but I also noticed that they
do go flat at other times.
Not sure what to make of little Peanut, other than he is darned
lucky to have you watching over him, and he sure is CUTE! :klunk

Aw CSL, little Peanut does appear to have a head injury - I agree with TD, he does look a little "off" but it does seem like from watching the videos, that he is compensating for it fairly well. Does he still seem really off balance when he is walking or jumping? Good to see him eating some extra nutrition with the blocks too.:great He's such an adorable little guy!:Love_Icon:Love_Icon

Thank you all for watching the videos and posting!! :grouphug:grouphug:grouphug:grouphug
That's what I thought, too, that he seems a little off, but is going on about his business. He seems ok when he walks or hops along, I don't think I've seen him wobbly. Just maybe some issues with bigger, farther jumps, but he is still little. Him and the little one eyed baby (now named Peepers) are around the same size, they're little. I'm going to continue keeping an eye on Peanut, give him healthy snacks, and take video to monitor how he looks and his progress. LOL, if I tell this to anyone but you guys, I will get that dazed "you are off your rocker!" stare!! :skwredup:rotfl

What a darling Peanut, he does look a bit different when he is eating but nothing I would be concerned with and yes there was a noticeable wound but once again healing nicely and will probably completely disappear with time. You have the cutest foxer crew ever :Love_Icon.

Thanks, you guys, but for those of you who pray, would you say some healing prayers for Peanut? Poor little guy got hurt. I saw this morning he was not using his front right paw, and it was sort of limp and swollen. He tried using it to hold his 1/2 block, but it must have hurt to use. He let the block drop and tried nibbling on it as he leaned over it. My heart sank. I'm already concerned for him, and sure don't want him to have any more problems. Plus the temp really dropped and it's freakin freezing out. :(

Oh no CSL, I will be praying little Peanut stays safe out there while injured and will heal up quickly.:grouphug:grouphug Im so glad he has you there to feed him and provide fresh water. Is he still climbing ok? You could always give him a little infant ibprophen on a piece of nut if he seems to be in a lot of pain. I know you will keep a close eye on him - hopefully he has a warm place to lay low for a little while.:Love_Icon

I just saw Peanut a little bit ago, he was across the yard, lying and resting in the dirt under the lemon tree. I ran and cut up little bitty pieces of avocado, and little pieces of picky blocks, and he let me put the bowls in front of him. He ate some of the block pieces, only using his left paw. I feel so bad, and have entered that "extra" worried state. It's different, I'm extra worried because he's still young and small, and because he already seems to have some issues. "Extra" worried means I'm really trying to not freak out and cry. Here's a short video of him, so you can see his hurt right front paw. The area he was in was part bright sun, part shadowed and shade, so it was kinda hard to see him, but if you look close, you can really get a good look at the hurt paw at the end of the video. :(

So very sorry for little Peanut there, such a brave boy too, remarkable how they manage to move about when having wounds, my prayers continue for this little fighter. You are doing all you can when providing nourishment to give him a chance to stay strong and heal

Oh goodness, poor little guy.:( Yeah, it doesn't look like he's using that leg much at all. How friendly is he with you CSL? Is he real skittish around you? I too am concerned for the little guy, especially if he already has some sort of head injury he's dealing with already.:grouphug

Wow this doesn't look good. :(
Is he able to climb with that.
Would you be able to capture him if we had a plan.
To be honest, I don't have a clue off the top of my head what
plan it could be, but I would like some sort of "back up" idea
if this gets worse.
If he can't climb well or run, we need to get him some place safe so at
the very least he can rest up until we figure out what is going on.
Does he have some sort of abrasion on the back of that leg?
Can you just refresh me again, what city are you in?

I'm in the SF bay area. I do know where I would take him, if it comes to that, the Lindsay Wildlife facility (https://lindsaywildlife.org/) I'm assuming, and hoping, he's managing to climb, because he suddenly disappeared when I was out there earlier. Now that it's dark, I went out back and sat on the ground a while, just sitting still and looking/listening. I saw and heard nothing. I'm praying he was able to get to a nest and will be ok. It's been a while since I've been this worried about one of them :( I'm going to cry. :(
P.s. I'll be looking for him in the morning. I'm not sure if there's an abrasion on that leg, I actually wondered that too. When I watched the video, I thought maybe, then I wasn't sure. I just remembered we heard a noise by our back door 2 or 3 nights ago. It was like 9pm. I opened the back door to find a CAT. Haven't seen it since but now it's another concern.

Peanut is here and eating! Got here about 9:45-9:50. Still here eating. He ate a little avocado then Picky Block broken into little pieces, now eating crushed walnuts tossed in a little liquid echinacea. I shooed the big squirrels away with whole nuts to go hide. Unfortunately my mean neighbor seems to be off today and I hear him starting his nonstop building,,loud power tool, back yard projects. (OH! This is the neighbor who threw a bucket across the yard the other day, while screaming "THERE'S THE BEAST!!" I know it was at a squirrel :()I'm at least relieved Peanut got here to eat. Still hobbling with front paw, but he's eating well
Please keep up prayers for Peanut. I woke up 4am crying, just worried for him. He's so precious. :Love_Icon:Love_Icon

Peanut returned yesterday afternoon to eat. I followed him afterwards, and he went to sit in a dirt area for a bit, before going up our big tree. He went more slowly than if he didn't have an injury, but he did go up. So glad I also saw him this morning. It's getting ready to storm. Starting to rain a little, but supposed to get heavier and winds are starting.
