Last year around this time was my first experience with a squirrel with bots. One of my releases showed up with about 7 almost ready to drop out. I have 8 squirrels that I've released in the last two years and 4 still regularly visit for blocks. I just had one show up with them again. She's skittish so I couldn't get a good count. Can you dose a drop of ivermectin onto blocks to treat ahead of time to prevent this? It seems in my area they have hit at the same time the last two years. Just wondering if I start dosing with ivermectin mid August if I could prevent this from happening to them. Any advice?

Our unfortunately now late HRT4SQRLS had some luck dosing Revolution once a month starting a month or so before bot season. She was putting a couple drops on a pecan half, allowing it to dry (it is a liquid) and smearing a bit of peanut butter over it, and I think she had good results with it. Her first release, Susie, had to have vet intervention several times because of the massive number of them, and this was a "Hail Mary" that worked for her. You want the pink "puppy/kitten pack. There are three little vials in the pack, and using a 3 drop dose, you will probably get 3-4 doses out of a single vial. You just need to keep it upright. The cap of the vial, when pushed down, pierces the top of the vial. When done dispensing drops, if you push that piercing pin in the cap back down into the vial, it provides a good seal as ling as you keep it upright. I tape them to the inside door of my refrigerator with that blue painters tape.

Yes Patti had me dosing mine in FL starting around April once a month with revolution as CM suggested.
I believe after they already have the bots you shouldn't dose as it may kill the bot which dies inside the squirrel causing the death of the squirrel.
I'm still gut wrenching over my released boy who unfortunately I tried dosing him and I wasn't persistent, this year the bot flies were the worst I've ever seen 😵
My boy had so many he seemed ok and they were dropping out of him till one day he came to me so lathargic I saw The bots were dead inside of him😱 even though he couldn't move fast I wasn't able to catch him as I planned to take him to Dr Emerson to have them removed..... He's never been back and that's going on 3 weeks, I know In my heart he said goodbye to me and died that night. I've called I've looked everywhere he was my lap squirrel. I cry daily over his loss.
I'll never make that mistake again I'll follow Patti's advice and start dosing early, but it's too late for my boy Elliot 😭
I just keep looking up saying " Patti take good care of my boy Elliot" he couldn't be in better hands

Thank you both!! It's too late this year but I think I will start dosing next year. It's been right at Labor Day that I've seen squirrels with them so I'll start in May. I'll need to see how long the larva stage is to back date the timing.

Hrt was amazing and I'm still so sad about her passing. Nancy too!! If it weren't for them, my Sammy never would have survived. And now he just turned 7!!
