Hello all. My baby (figuratively) boy NR is having a horrible time and has taken a turn for the worst. A few weeks ago he suddenly (within a few hours) went from being playful and hyper to lethargic and one hand swelling up with what looked like pustules. An hour or so later his back feet swelled up as well. My sister in law is a vet (unfortunately on the other side of the country) and we agreed that starting antibiotics would be the best. Over the next two days the pustules disappeared but nothing else got better. His whole body felt hot and seemed to be swelling all over. We tried adding in Benadryl in case it was some odd allergic reaction and he did seem to respond a bit but then nothing. After another few days I decided to try treatment for MBD to see if that was it as it seemed like we had nothing to lose (there were a lot of reasons I had initially ruled it out. A few other rehabbers had agreed with me). However, I continued to keep him on the antibiotics just in case. He seemed to react very well to the MBD treatment initially. Swelling went down, he had more energy (never back to himself but so much better). I tapered him off the antibiotics and kept up with the MBD treatment. A week went by and I thought we were doing well. Then his fur started falling out and his feet started swelling back up again. He lost all energy and will hardly eat. Now he has blood in his pee. I know too much calcium can cause UTIS so after consulting with my sister-in-law again we got him back on the antibiotics. It's been two days now and there's no change. He seems so uncomfortable and I am just beside myself with worry. I know most UTIS are treated with cipro. I have been trying to scramble to find some and I believe I might have found a source. He seems like hes in so much pain and today is the worst he's been since we started treating for MBD. He also seems a bit wheezy. This had been such an odd case like nothing I have seen before and other pros seem to agree about its weirdness. What do I do? I'm afraid he might have a kidney stone. His belly doesn't feel hard so I don't think there is a blockage but I don't know. The one vet I had that I use to be able to bring him to in-person moved out of state and I haven't found another I can take him to without them putting him down (my state is very strict).
He is about a year and a few months old. He is still drinking water and he eats tiny bits every (including some of Henry's picky blocks) but is barely eating at this point. Before all of this, I very closely monitored his diet and am trying to do my best to get him the nutrients he needs while he is in this state.
