Intake having seizures

Just took in two babies that were in the storm in Amory. So long story short they raised them from the internet information. Nuts seeds all the bad things blah blah. I talked with her last weekend and wasn’t in a position to take them in last weekend and this weekend I made the necessary preparations to take them in. They were doing renovations in their “room” yesterday because they took some damage from the storm. I have a couple short videos of the boy but not during the seizure. He is having seizures. He is angry and scared. She (finder) said this started just today. They start in his rear end, then he flips and flops and lays still for about 20 seconds then back on his feet disoriented. So I talked her into a different diet last week but still no block. My question is this, stress related seizure or MBD related????

Thanks for taking in these babies, Tuff! I'm at work but noticed your thread and just wanted to make a couple quick comments before I become busy again. How old are these Little Ones? It sounds as if they are already weaned. What formula did they receive and are they still getting formula? In light of what you have presented, i would suggest beginning the Emergency MBD Treatment ASAP! It's of course harmless if the seizures have another cause but can be life-saving if the seizures are secondary MBD. Also, if the other little Squirrel who is not seizing was raised with the same diet I would recommend starting the MBD Treatment that Squirrel as well.

As far as seizures being caused by stress; that's very difficult explain BUT there is; at least in human medicine, some evidence that for some people with an estsblished seizure disorder, stress potentially may be a trigger for seizures at times.

Yea they were and have been already weened from the sounds of the original finder for at least a month or so. So anyways I would put them around 12 weeks. They are a little bigger than Archie maybe by a week or so. These babies were found in a hollow tree. That particular part of the tree survived the storm. So they didn’t get snatched out of the tree by the wind. The mom ran off at some point during the clean up and left the babies behind. They hard released one (insert face palm) these two do not want to go??? Imagine that. So the seizures started today when they were trying to catch him and bring him here to put into the release room. Now they could have been going on before this is the first one they had witnessed. I started the MBD protocol as soon as they calmed down enough to give food. I did separate them so I could monitor the little boy. The little girl is calmer and started on a block. The boy is taking yogurt with tums. It was all I had at the moment. I also gave him a block or two. They both have a little diarrhea for some reason. Not smelly at least for now, still brown in color.
All I had for the seizure was one tiny drop of valium. I was saving it just in case it was needed for a baby. It was way way under dosed. But I have not seen another seizure since I isolated him and gave calcium and Valium. He is in a smaller cage covered up to help calm him. The female is not displaying any signs of MBD nor seizures. She is very active and calmer. They both look really good considering they have not had a proper diet.

From my understanding they were raised on the goats milk formula. But she said they only took it for a few weeks and was done. I’m sure she didn’t tell me everything but there is that.

Can you mix up some formula and make it available in a shallow dish? I think they should both be treated for MBD for a little while, mainly because we know that goats milk does not provide the proper nutrients and they were fed a diet of calcium depleting foods. If they will at least drink formula from a bowl it would be helpful for their nutritional needs.

Yea ma’am I ordered extra blocks and formula last week when I talked with her the first time. He has been seizure free so far. I put a camera on him last night and so far nothing. He is pretty mad still but he seems to be doing ok now. Definitely going to run the MBD protocol on them both for about a month and see how it goes.

Just a quick update…The boy (no name yet) is doing great. Once I dosed the Valium and got him in a dark confined area he calmed down. No sign of any seizures or seizure like activities. He is definitely pissed and lets me know it…lol. Original finder said they wouldn’t eat veggies….hmmmm they eat veggies like they are on sale at the Dollar Tree. They love their Henry’s blocks and yogurt…the yogurt is the best place to hide calcium powder just in case y’all needed to know. They are both active and living life large at the moment. I really do believe the stress of the construction in their room accompanied by capture and being moved contributed to the seizures he was having. It does make me wonder if he will be releasable. Simply what if he gets stressed out in a tree and has a seizure???? How do I test this theory? I don’t want to kill him but exactly how would something like this be tested?

He is adorable! I am so glad you got your hands on him and his sis!

I think that what was the most terrifying was that there was no way to get away from it. In the wild, he hears something scary and he leaves! They couldn't do that in this situation, they were trapped in utter chaos until the humans decided to stop.

I am basically having a new home built in my back yard - I could almost hit it with a rock. There has been all manner of construction equipment, giant trucks, cranes flying trusses, huge cement pumpers and all manner of construction racket going on since mid-winter. It is on the same side of my house as the squirrel feeder. They were very cautious for a couple days, then they all returned, and when it gets too much for them they stuff as many blocks as they can in their mouths and go around to the other side of the house to eat!

You can watch him once he is in the release cage. I would go easy with the lawnmower; start it and do a bit as far from the cage as you can and then stop and the next day a little more until he knows it isn't anything to be afraid of...
