    Hi foster
    to TheSquirrelBoard

Start a thread for your baby in the Nursery and we will answer all of your questions.
I am really not comfortable with the canned Esbilac. It seems to always cause diarrhea. It is not the same as the powder. The ingredients are not the same.
I would rather see you use the temporary goats milk formula until your Esbilac arrives.

You stimulate them to potty every time you feed them.

    TEMPORARY GOAT'S MILK FORMULA:

    3 parts goat’s milk
    1 part heavy whipping cream*
    1 part vanilla yogurt

Formula will last 48 hours in refrigerator.

    Goat’s Milk
This can be purchased at natural food stores such as Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods, and at most health food stores that sell groceries. It is a product for humans. Do not substitute commercial formula made for baby goats or other livestock sold at feed stores.

Goat’s milk is available fresh in a carton; evaporated in a can; and as a powdered milk. If you purchase either the evaporated or powdered versions, please blend them with water according to the package directions before using to make the formula.

    Heavy Whipping Cream
This is found in small cartons in the grocery store near the coffee creamers and half and half. Regular heavy cream may be substituted if it is unavailable, but the heavy whipping cream has the highest fat content, and is preferred.

    Yogurt
Yogurt has beneficial bacteria in it that soothes and settles digestion. Full fat yogurt is best, and a good choice that is very widely available is Stoneyfield Yobaby yogurt. However if it is unavailable, a low fat vanilla yogurt may be substituted. Avoid those that have artificial sweeteners in them. Vanilla and banana are both popular flavors, and the sweet taste of the yogurt helps to convince the baby to accept it.

It has been recently discovered that very small pinky squirrels do better with the ESBILAC PUPPY FORMULA, with probiotics, instead of Fox Valley. If the Goat's Milk formula is used, omit the heavy whipping cream for the first two weeks of life.

From what I've read, no liquid formula. Only powered (though I'm not sure why). You may be able to find it at walmart, just make sure the first five ingredients are correct. Also, be sure he's hydrated.

As for potty times, I normally rub him with a warm que tip before every feeding.

I think my baby might be a bit dehydrated but all I have is frost blue gatorade... Will that suffice until tomorrow when I have my pedialyte?

I would just use the hydration formula...minus salt....I have to check, but it's something like 1 tablespoon sugar mixed with 1 cup warm water....make sure it's warm...you can give this between feedings.

Why do you think he's dehydrated?

Her pee was clear, and she pooped a brown pellet. When feeding her I freaked and thought she was bloated, so I pinched between her shoulder blades and I think she's slightly dehydrated.. It could just be my paranoid mother sense though..

And yeah, I said 'she'.. I uh.. Thought the vulva was a boy sack, but after a little comparison...

    I got a little girl

Awwww.....congrats on the girl It happens often....when they're little it's hard to tell Well, it won't be anymore
Her urine being clear is a pretty good sign she's not dehydrated...have you checked through her bedding to see there are any poo pellets Lovely being a squarent if you're worried it won't hurt to give her the extra hydration...just as long as she continues to eat normally And I understand all about worrying...I'm a notorious "worrywart" we make the best parents

    Yeah, I panicked! (Whoops)

So this morning she's perfectly fine. Ate a 7cc breakfast and *Drumroll* OPENED HER OTHER EYE*

I feel that I may be far to excited over this

All my non-squirrel owner friends(so everyone but those here lol) are just baffled by my excitement. She's growing so fast!

Not to "damper" your spirits but in most States it is illegal to have wildlife, be very careful of all you let it be known to. All it takes is one, either them or someone they have told to place a call to the authorities and get your baby confiscated and euthanized . This is what normally happens due to authorities deeming them unable to be released back to the wild since they were kept by humans.

Yeah, and unfortunately I'm in one of those states. I'll be sure to keep a lid on it. Normally when I refer to her on SM I simply refer to her as "the baby".

I probably have people thinking I'm a teenage mom, but still. lol
