    Question Ensure

It's been over 3 yrs since I used ensure, so need some refreshing - a couple of quick questions about ensure:

    1. Does it need to be warmed up like formula, or is it used at room temp?
    2. On the bottle it says that once opened, should be refrigerated and used within 24hr. Obviously a little baby isn't going to drink up the whol bottle in two days.
So has anyone used it beyond 24hrs of refrigeration?
    3. For how long/how many days can it be used? I remember using it as a temp. solution and for a compromised baby until I got the formula. Can it be used for a week or longer?

Anything else I need to remember about using Ensure?

I think that you should stick to the 24 hr period, but you could freeze small containers of it before the 24 hours are up. I generally don't use it alone. I add it to formula to flavor it.

    Thank you, SammysMom.
I am taking care of this baby temporarily, so I know I won't have formula. Will have to use Ensure until the baby goes back.

Does it have to be warmed up?
In its intended usage, it is consumed as is. But as a formula replacement? - don't remember if I was warming it up or not...

Anything given as formula or hydration, to a baby of formula-consuming age, should be warmed. Baby squirrels don't relate to cold liquid, only to that which mimics the temp of their mamma's body (101-102*)

I would also thin it with water. It is very high in sugar and higher in vitamin d than you want.

    Thank you Sammysmom and IR!

The little one was saved from a crow and has an injuried nose, thus making more pfts and all the baby snorting sounds than usual which is already beginning to make me paranoid about aspiration or something.

Can you get goats milk, yogurt and cream? I'm thinking that the temporary gm formula would be better nutritionally if possible.

On the bottle of Ensure it states to not freeze it.
I used to freeze it also until the Sugar Glider group pointed this out to us.

Was thinking about gm formula, too. Just don't know what people willing time using after - didnt want the baby's tummy to be switched back and forth. But now that you are echoing my thoughts, maybe that's what I'll do.

    TY!

honestly, don't know. Will find out when they come back. I started transitioning her to GM formula - so far so good (knock on wood and fingers crossed).
