Default Adult has Mange and baby has bad leg.

So I have been helping a black squirrel with a broken tooth and he is getting better but his hair started falling out.

I am not sure if its the mostly avocado diet or mange. Can you please let me know what do I buy to treat the mange and dosage?

2nd there is a baby squirrel in my shed that is dragging her rear right leg. She can climb and run but is not very fast. Her mom is still there and the other babies run around all over the place. She never leaves the shed. I put snacks in through a little hole for her and I have seen her eating them.

Can she live a normal life or should I trap and care for her myself? I am not sure she could survive on his own.

RE: The "mange". Can you see him closely enough to determine if the skin is irritated? Mange skin is red and raw and the skin becomes almost "crispy" looking. If the fur is falling out but the skin looks fine it is something else. Can you get a photo? Mange can be treated with ivermectin. It is available as a horse wormer at tack and feed shops - and if you have a Tractor Supply, they will have it. All of these are what you are looking for - I would get the $2.99 one! https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/se...mectin%20paste

The dosing is very specific so you need to come back here once you get it. But truly, your best bet is to get us a pic - if it isn't mange he doesn't need the ivermectin. Squirrels do a pretty big hair molt in the spring.

The baby with the leg... Does it use the leg at all? Does it place it down to use for balance, or is it hanging freely with no use at all?

The leg is just hanging there. No movement in the leg at all and she just drags it behind her. Its hard to watch her run around and climb the little tree that is against the shed. She does not venture more than 3 feet from the shed. It has not improved since I first seen her last week.

Ugh. A useless leg like that really needs to be amputated. Do you have the ability to get this little one the care she needs?

I live in a small town and I work from home. I have plenty of time on my hands. I have enough funds to give her the care she needs.

I will see if I can catch her. I am pretty sure I can, she is kind of used to me. I live in the UP of Michigan close to Wisconsin. There is a great Vet near here that I trust.

I will post when the ivermectin arrives.

    Thank you.

Depending on cause of injury if that leg has any chance, the
sooner she can be evaluated the better that chance could be.

How would you go about catching her and detaining her?
You definitely would want to have that planned out ahead.

It started snowing this morning so everyone is hiding, I pushed plenty of food into the hole in the shed so they can stay safe in there. The temperature should return to 60's tomorrow and they will come out.

I will get pictures of him at least and I will try to catch her.

    Thanks.

I am going to use a small fishing net when she comes out of the hole to eat avocado. She is too small to use a metal trap and that would be too dangerous.

She does not run away when she sees me so the net should work.

I hope it stops snowing, I am putting avocado in the hole of the shed with seeds so she gets very used to eating right there.

I have no idea how but the baby seems to be healing. She can pull her leg forward and use it almost like normal.

He is itching ALOT. Every other minute he is scratching.

Yup. I would treat with the ivermectin. I will send you a PM with dosing instructions so you can start as soon as you get it.

That is wonderful about the leg! Keep them fed and happy so they stay close and protected!

Baby is doing great. She is adventuring the huge tree's in my backyard, there is always sunflower seeds at the base of the biggest tree.

Just did 2nd dose on the boy. You can already see a huge improvement.
