How's he behaving? Could you tell us about his setup now that you know he's blind? And of course, got any more pics of this cutie?

    BEAUTIFUL BABY BOY!!!
" For the animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complete than ours they move finished and complete, gifted with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren; they are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendor and travail of the earth."

Not sure which thread to post this on so I'll put it on both

I've got a blind squirrel and have had her for over 2 years now, when I first found her she was totally blind but I think she can now see shapes.

You're one step ahead of me as your little one already trusts you enough to hold him whereas Squiggle (my girl) didn't so I first built up a bond by talking to her and now if she is ever scared I just talk to her and that seems to comfort her, I have never worried about changing my scent or anything like that as she always knows it's me by my voice, at the start she would cry but she stopped when I talked to her but not for anyone else!

At least to start with keep things in the same place, he will bump into everything to start with but he should soon work out where everything is and even run around without bumping into things, Squiggle quickly learnt the layout of several rooms and was able to happily run around for ages and even knew where the comfy sofa was and would climb up and go to sleep

I've never kept her cage layout the same just made sure that there is nothing she can get hurt on or fall off and she has never had a problem with this, she just plods around the new layout exploring the new bits then is quite happy with it and can find her way easy enough. I actually try and change her layout often and hide food around to prevent her from getting bored as she can't climb up on the furnishings like a normal squirrel would so she usually ends up running in circles until she gets bored and goes to sleep so I do try to change things around a bit and get her mind working a bit

Hope your little ones ok and would love to see and updated pic

Sorry I haven't responded or posted for a while. Thank you everybody for your insight and help and good wishes! Carlos is doing just fine. He's very affectionate and likes to roughhouse on my bed and never seems to go far. Running into things hasn't been a problem either...like he has a sixth sense. I am picking up his cage today which I am thrilled for. Its huge, 5 1/2 feet high, by 3 feet, by 3 feet. This is as big as I could find. Now I'm not sure how to "furnish" or "decorate" it. I'll keep the bottom soft and cozy with his plush baby kangaroo and put in some big branches for climbing. Any other advice??

He looks really really fluffy in the first picture, like his fur is longer then other squirrels? He is very handsome . Chipper loves fresh tree branches .

He is indeed a fluffy looker! Btw, I think that no one mentioned dental care. Like I said, there's just so much to know! Anyway, if you're unaware, their front top and bottom teeth grow for their entire lives, about six inches a year, and you will need to give him good things to chew on to keep them worn down. if they don't wear down on their own, they will overgrow, make it hard to eat, and eventually grow up into their palate and kill them. So keep an eye on them, and get him tree branches to shred, black walnuts (which have crazy thick and hard shells) and deer antler, cuttle bone (both available at many pet stores and online), and/or sea shells are common things given for this purpose. If his teeth overgrow, you will have to trim them or find someone to do it for you, and that presents a situation which is best avoided.

    He's stunning

Are there any platforms in the cage? make sure that he can't fall too far in the cage as he could miss a branch and have a nasty fall, you don't want him to get hurt! If it hasn't got many/any platforms I would suggest you attach hammocks around that can catch him if he falls

I am glad to see he has a loving, forever home. He sounds like a great little squirrel.

I found a similar thread on a different forum, has some information if you scroll down about the condition, no eyes. Very interesting I thought. It also shows pictures of a baby grey that has the same condition.
