Thank you; I'll have to check that. If it were a sinus issue or teeth issue, what would be my options?
They get blocks every day and have sticks to chew on. what elsecan i do for teeth?

Considering it seems to be around eyes and nose, sinuses does make sense. As someone with allergies, it makes *a lot* of sense.
Will check though.
How do I resolve such an issue?
How long have they been in the current cage?
Is that pressure treated wood that was used, do you know?
children's or infants benedryl suspension would be something you could safely try...
and changing laundry soap etc..whatever is in his immediate environment could be questioned...
teeth are another ball game... could be many things as far as dental issues...
I usually do a process of elimination... easy things first sorta person...
scrub cage down with a 10% bleach solution..change bedding & soap and try th benedryl... give it a few days...
if rubbing or itching continues... time to rethink it...
but do check inside mouth too, if there's an infection you may smell it...like bad breath..
if it's a genetic or traumatic issue...you may need xrays... but one step at a time...
we don't wanna jump the....
depending on what mg/ml benedryl you have/buy and your sqs weight in grams decides the amount..
good luck..
maybe compare the teeth to your other babies...
Ho hummm... wood.... it's not cedar.... it's not the treated wood for outside. As far as I know, it's just regular lumber from Home Depot because my husband didn't want them to get sick from the treated wood.
I'm not sure how long they've been in the cage. A few weeks but still fairly recent. Longer than the issues but having had sinus issues, I know how these things can build up. I suppose the cage *is* a possibility. Darn it. Don't know how to fix that one as hubby won't want to make another and previous cage is way too small at this point; arguments will on time and money.
The soap we use essentially with no fragrance. I have hypersensitivities myself...
Perhaps it's the butternut squash I've been giving them .... ???... Is that possible? Could a food allergy be the source?
As you said; still need to check teeth and breath. Although these guys are hard to manipulate; they're all over the place.
Just checked in on him. Unless mites are into symmetry I'm sticking with sinuses or teeth as he's starting to get a matching circle on the other side.
I have a strong suspicion it's his rodent blocks. Around the same time as this started, I had started feeding them Versele-Laga Rat Blocks. The guy at the store told me they were excellent. I was planning on switching them over to Teklad as I know it is SB approved and placed an order this morning; still waiting on the invoice. Now that I'm realizing it may the blocks, I think I'm going to have to pay for rush shipping.
Ughhhh.... I let them out of their cage while I gave it a good scrub down this evening
Once I was done, I went to pick them up one by one to put them back in the cage. The very first one I picked up seemed to have a small bald spot on top of his head (ridge between eyes) next to his left eye. I thought the furr might just be out of place but when I tried to brush my finger over it, he bit me.
Anyway, there is a lump there. It's not huge but it is a lump.
Whereas his brother (Blacky) has bald spots on both cheeks where whiskers are and a bit around the eyes.
Is it related? Is it the same? I didn't see crust around ears. Should I give Revolution just in case.
Haven't giben the Children's Benadryl yet as there wasn't any at the store I went to.
Will go to pharmcy next to my work tomorrow but I'm starting to wonder (given the sencond guy with the lump) if Benadryl is the right call.
What can it be?![]()
As long as it has been a month since the last treatment i would use Revolution. Just a drop. I dont see how it can hurt and it may well help.

Oh and the cage is made of pine. Doesn't smell.
Last time was in may so have them some.
Are probiotics of any use in this situation??

Ok, the guy with the eyes+nose issue (Blacky)... I couldn't detect bad breath. His teeth seem to be the same length as his brothers. The only difference I can see is that his teeth seem whiter than theirs.... They have orangy teeth where his appeared to be more towards white.
Any thoughts?
Still wondering for the little guy with the lump on his head as well.
Thanks!
describe lump please.... hard? soft? Moves? redness? scab?
*probiotics.... I am a believer in probiotics for anything mammal...
health starts in the intestines.... we only benefit from what we can digest... all nutrition is gained thru the intestines and if there is good flora, we will gain the nutrition from what we eat...
every ounce of formula made here has yogurt in it...for any sq, no matter the age... my 11 y/o drinks FV with Dannon All Natural Vanilla everyday as do many sqs here...
and they like it!
I have to agree with Sammys mom...if the last treatment was weeks ago, I would reapply Revolution.
sending goiod vvibes, hoping for solution..
Thanks; well they're on the GM formula now as I ran out of FV and, since they were getting close to be weaned off, i couldn't justify paying the shipping to Canada. Although I have to repeat that I'm impressed with Henry's for actually refunding some of my shipping last time. Had it not been for the fact that they were so close to being weaned off, I would have ordered more.
Anyway, back to topic... They get GM formula and I use Activia probiotic yogurt in it. However, I'm wondering if there's any worth to adding the probiotic powder (that's for cats) from the picture I posted.
Blacky update: I took a closer look after my last posting. He in fact has one orange tooth and one whiter. Length appears normal. No drooling. Couldn't detect bad breath. Of course, putting my nose up close to his moth while holding him wasn't that easy.
Lump on the other guy.... Not sure. I'll take another look after work tonight. It was quite tender I believe....
...as he but me when I tried to touch it. It's not huge but I know it doesn't belong there.
Will pick up child benedryl today just on case...
Weighing is going to be another fun step.
So.... Just got home with a bag of hamster extrusion. Gave it to the guys and Blacky went nuts trying to grab as many as he could... I;m definately leaning toward the versele-laga rat blocks being an issue.
Still want to give Benadryl child formula... Children's Benadryl Allergy 6.25mg /5mL. Unfortunately, the only flavour available was bubblegum.
What's the breakdown by weight that I give?
How much do they weigh?

So..........
Blacky weighs about 385, give or take the weight of a block of food.
As for the second little guy. His lump does seem to have some small amounts of scabbing on it. Unless it's really dry skin. Hard to tell . He moves around a lot. there's flakes.
Thoughts??
Which benedryl do you have or did you get the dose already?

Children's Benadryl Allergy 6.25mg /5mL
http://well.ca/products/benadryl-all...iquid_172.html
No, I haven't received dosage info yet.
Also waiting for thoughts on what the lump with small amount of scabbing could be
As long as this is 12.5mg/5ml the dose for 350g is .28cc and for 400g it is .32cc so depending upon where they fall between those numbers dose accordingly. Remember that although this medication can cause drowsiness in a small percentage of squirrels it can cause hyperactivity. Ask Stosh about using it to calm Cruiser for tooth trimming only to have it hop him up! Yikes!
