Default are pine nuts a treat or wild food

Squirrellock loves pine nuts but they are rather high in fat, 170 calories for I/4 cup. And most of the calories are from saturated fats. Are pine nuts a treat or wildlife food?

    Thanks

are we talking about a captive squirrel or a wild squirrel?

FOr a captive squirrel pine nuts are not good nuts - way too high in phos.
They should be a very, very, very, very rare treat and literally a couple of kernels.

Best nuts for treats : almonds, hazelnuts, then walnuts and pecans.

Familiarize yourself with these tables of calhos ratios in different foods, including nuts:

you want to pick the best calhos ratios possible so as to avoid MBD

Thanks for your help. I will limit the pine nuts to 4 to 6 a day until the bag is done, then no more.
