I gave some flowers and even pieces of the vine to mine and they survived!

They also seem to like to eat Violets, which I have in the yard. I give them 2 or 3 per day.

Mine like apple tree branches yum yum

    I have to disagree...
I would not feed HS, it's on too many poisonious lists for me...

in general, if I snap a plant and it's milky, I DO NOT FEED it to anyone.. this is old school folk lore, but it's been right on so far when I do check the lists...

apple branches are always a safe hit!

We don't have any indoor squirrels, ours are all backyard buddies, and I'm always fascinated to watch them and see what they eat in the yard. We don't have any honeysuckle, but I noticed a squirrel eating the purple flowers off our blue potato tree one day, and I had never noticed them eating those before. Makes sense, as there's pretty much no flowers on it right now, LOL!! I actually asked someone at a nursery before what I could plant that squirrels DO like, and they couldn't answer that. They only hear of people complaining about squirrels digging up their plants, no one's ever asked what they could plant FOR the squirrels!!

That's funny Cali Squirrel Lover may be if they planted something they'd like they would leave the other alone me personally I try to cultivate all the natural plants that grow here....huckleberry, honeysuckle (hummingbirds), devils walking stick...birds love the berries....some things I have no clue what their called I did give my squirrels, including Baby honeysuckle when they were little just a couple of times they were interested in the flowers...the nectar...nothing happened...but I would not have given it if I had know they were on any poison list as a little girl I use to pull the base of the flower out and lick the drop of nectar off the pistil that would pull through fun times I will not be giving any to these babies thanks for the question and the heads up

that's good to know as it seems like alot of people HAVE given HS and no problems...
so not 'as TOXIC' to sqs, obviously huh..
I don;t have any here, but I DO love the smell.

I got sucked in to reading the toxic lists... and I had no idea about some of the stuff on it...
I guess if you see wilds eating something, it would have to be okay to give to captives too...irreguardless of list...IDK

You know I've never seen the wilds eat it and maybe we just don't give enough to affect them...I gave Baby the wild strawberries all last spring...just a couple a day...she loved them but then I noticed her stool started to change like something was bothering her so I stopped and it stopped if anything has toxicity I rather be safe than sorry
