    Here's what AI tells us:

Yes, lava rock can be chewed by small animals like hamsters, chinchillas, and guinea pigs. Lava rock is a safe, non-toxic material that helps keep teeth healthy.

Funny you ask. For some time now I have been finding random lava rocks in my yard. My neighbor has some lava rocks in his flower beds, but the rocks I’ve been finding are no where near the side of my property where his rocks are. At first I didn’t think anything about it but when it kept happening I had to assume that the squirrels were carrying them. I don’t have any other critters around that might do that except maybe a rat. I haven’t seen a squirrel with one in its mouth but I’d like to.
