    Exclamation Poorly Arm/Hand

    Hi

We have a squirrel, called George who comes to us for nuts and she is about 3 years old. We've noticed over the past 2 weeks, that she has a poorly arm/hand.

She will bear weight on it to walk, use it tentatively to eat, but will not climb unless she has to. I have a video from my iPhone, but it's an invalid format.

We are shelling nuts for her to eat, which she does, but she will tell us when she wants nuts to bury.

We don't know what is wrong with her and I would appreciate any and all help and advice, please.

Thanking everyone in anticipation. We love George to pieces!!

George is a very happy looking squirrel! Paw injuries happen often to wild squirrels. Usually, they heal up in 2-3 weeks. George will certainly appreciate the treats you give her since she will not have to forage as much and that will help her heal faster. I would just keep an eye on her, provide treats, a small bowl of fresh water would be nice too (clean it out daily with soap and water).

I agree. It's best to just supplement her and keep an eye on the paw to make sure there's no swelling or infection.

You might also want to try feeding her a little earlier, then normal so that she doesn't have to compete with other wild squirrels out there for the time being.
