Default Squirrel with tooth growing into cheek

Hi - I am a volunteer wildlife rescuer and I work with a statewide organization that operates through dispatchers. Today, a caller claimed to one of our dispatchers that he had a squirrel in his yard whose "tooth is growing through his eye and into the eye socket." I will tell you straight off that the one rehab here would put this squirrel down immediately, because that's their take on overgrown tooth issues in squirrels and groundhogs. We do have some vets who are willing to work with us on wildlife cases, if there is any possibility of treatment. Have any of you heard of such a thing and, if so, what would you suggest? Is there any conceivable hope for this squirrel? Note that squirrel is not yet captured.
    Thanks so much!

I have heard of similar situations with overgrown teeth in wilds that were successfully caught and had their teeth trimmed and injuries treated. The squirrel may lose its eyesight in that eye and be a NR but I think it would recover and could still live a decent life. Please catch it and treat it as this would be an agonizingly painful way to die. Thankfully you have vet access. I’m praying it can be caught quickly and treated. Please keep us updated.

Thank you! This is not my assignment but I am passing on any responses to the person handling the case.
