i know i called just now and they said that they don’t give details or updates on the animal brought in but when it’s time for releasing back to the finder, they give a call for a week in advance. i have no idea if that means they don’t let us know if something worse has happened or what our options are to finding out more. the person i was directly texting only read my message this morning and hasn’t responded hhhhhhh

That's more than a little worrisome!!!! Do you have any other contacts at the Wildlife Center who might be more responsive? Can you contact the Vet who performed the surgery directly; maybe at their office if they also have a private practice as as do many Vets do who are associated with a Wildlife Facility?

    AN UPDATE - he’s okay 😭
i really don’t know too much about how this center functions exactly but i imagine since they have their hands full, that is why they do not provide updates. i’ll have to find out what happens in the event that the animal passes away but for now, here’s the update:

Great news! I hope he recovers quickly and can get back to your yard soon!

Wow! What an amazing difference. I have to think that squirrel is pretty darned healthy to have such significant incisions heal this quickly and this well. Kudos from the Northwoods to your vet!

coming up on 3 weeks apart. they said they would text us when we can pick him up but it feels like it’s taking forever to hear back and just hoping we can bring him back home soon and that he’s doing alright

    Hi Scoopysnack:
I, too, hope Bumpy is doing OK! It is very surprising to me that you have not heard anything and have not been able to contact the facility! Again, I wonder if you can contact the Vet directly (at their private office for instance). Three weeks is far beyond the likely time-frame for a full recovery to have taken place! I'll have to admit that I am suspicious! You trusted them and they said that Bumpy would be able to come home to you for release and now they are apparently "slow-walking" even updates, let alone the promised return! Even with the more extensive surgery than I anticipated; Bumpy should be out in his home trees by now!
My hopes are with Bumpy and for him (and for y'all too)!
    Regards,
    SamtheSquirrel

Don’t have any names for the vet who worked on Bumpy or the one’s directly involved with his case and really not too sure of their process at all honestly. I remember with muchi’s babies, we communicated through two volunteers who we connected with and that’s how we got more of an inside view of their progress and when we could get them again but we haven’t been in touch since.

It has been really bad weather so I am thinking maybeeee they are taking some more time to ensure he’s nice and strong for taking on the weather again??? i have no clue but i really want to trust that they know what they’re doing and are keeping him longer out of his best interest. i do wish they would provide more updates but perhaps since we’re not licensed or anything remotely close to handlers of Bumpy, they either don't see reason to or just don’t have the time? hhhh i don’t know, i’ll definitely reach out again on monday though.

This is truly wonderful news! This made my day! Thank you, Scoopysnack and Astril for your love, care and concern for Bumpy! Thanks also to the Veterinary Surgeon and the Wildlife Center! I'll have to admit, I was getting worried and just checked your thread hoping for some good news and look at this! Before you release Bumpy, please give him a gentle Squirrel hug from me and tell him that I said, "welcome home!"
    Regards,

ahhh forgot to check the weather so we will be getting him first thing tomorrow morning if the weather report is accurate and it’s better tomorrow, it’s way too windy and rainy for him to settle in nicely today! thank you all for your love towards bumpy and all the advise you’ve given us handling our first botfly we’ll be sure to tell bumpy how loved he is

we got him!!! it’s cloudy with the sun peeking out sometimes and not rainy, so i’m glad we waited. they called him benny while he was in their care!

we also donated some teklad and formula to the center

when we get home, we’re going to release him in the backyard where muchi is resting. we have water and food ready in case he doesn’t shoot out right away. we will definitely take pictures and update again!

    i hope he remembers home

a crow cawing nearby scared him out unfortunately but he went straight for our big tree! after that we lost sight of him — i hope he comes back soon!

Maybe he'll just need some time to regroup. Hopefully he'll eventually get back to whatever level of trust he had before, and if not, I hope he shows enough of himself to satisfy any fears.
