Hello!
I took in a baby squirrel whose nest was in a tree that was cut down and mom was unable to be found. I've had him for over a week now and things have been going well, started with a rehydration solution and have fully transitioned to esiblac via 3cc syringe, however he aspirated a couple of times while I was getting the hang of feeding and has since developed clicking- suspected aspiration pneumonia...
I have a bottle of sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim (800 mg/ 160mg) double strength from my horse med collection and am wondering if this is a good option, or if I should find a better/ more fast acting antibiotic. I would likely be able to get most antibiotics on Monday from a large animal vet, but don't want to wait to start treatment, as his condition has progressed from last night to today. I just weighed him and he is 80 grams. He is still taking formula and I am keeping him nice and warm... Please help me with dosing, any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you so much in advance!
