    Exclamation UTI AND CONSTIPATION

    Hello!

I rescued an eastern grey squirrel 2 days ago. He is about 4-5 weeks old, taking formula really well (on puppy formula, his fox valley comes in the mail tmw)

He pees a little, but has not pooped since I rescued him on Wednesday. His pee now smells like fish, and he appears to be uncomfortable.

For the constipation, I have 2ml of pedialite about 30 mins ago.

I have a pill amoxicillin 500mg (my old prescription) and I have clindamycin HCL that was prescribed for my dog (it’s expired by 3 months).
Can I use any of these prescriptions for him? If not, what should I do?

I would try to get Amox-Clav which is Augmentin for human or Cavamox for animals. Another choice is Ciprofloxacin. Both are good for UTI. Amox standard is good but above is better. I would ask around to family and friends as you just need 1 pill. Post if you find one. If not, the Amox 500mg can be dose.

I have another antibiotic - cephalexin. Would that work?
How should I dose that or the amoxicillin?

Cephalexin would be better than standard amoxicillin.

Any luck with augmentin (amox-clav) - this is best option for antibiotic.

Once we decide on which antibiotic to use, I (or somebody) will private message (PM) you with steps to prepare it and the dose amount. We do not post dose information on the open board.

Please send me the strength in mg of the cephalexin pill.

Looks like you are in east coast so someone may pick this up in the morning for you. I'm in west coast, 3 hours earlier.

    Hi Kenna:
Can you post the strength of the Cephalexin tablet that you have or did you get mixing and dosing instructions for this already by PM. If not, we will need the strength of the tablet and an updated weight of your Squirrel taken with a digital scale preferably expressed in Grams. How is you little Squirrel doing now?
    Regards,
    SamtheSquirrel

Hi Sam, no dosing sent yet. Waiting on cephalexin strength. Maybe OP is looking for amox-clav (preferred AB).

Thank you for joining this thread.
