My little Fox squirrel baby Earl is about 10 weeks old now. We rescued him at about 5-6 weeks I'm guessing? Anyway. This forum has been super helpful to me so thank you all so much for being here and sharing all your expert advise! I can't believe just how attached I've become and how deeply I've fallen head over heels for this lil guy. We fed him the Esbilac then moved onto goat milk/cream/egg yolk/yogurt mixture which he's been slowly self weening (I still offer it to him 3 times a day in case, just smaller amounts...I've noticed that he really does regulate his intake and is now preferring solids). I've had a lot of fun introducing him to a HUGE variety of fruit and veg and seeds and nuts and like a true squirrel, he will LOVE something like watermelon one day and then take it and toss it the next. Ha! Just like my son when he was a baby. But he usually comes back around to loving it again. I ordered Henry's healthy blocks (thanks to reading about them here) and he tried to open the box himself he was so excited. He couldn't get enough of em! For like 3 days...and then the inevitable...."meh..what else you got in the fridge mom??". I know that he NEEDS his blocks for all the minerals and vitamins so I came up with this recipe and he's OBSESSED. Thought I could share it here for any other picky eater pals out there.
3 crumbled henry's healthy blocks
1 tiny tiny pinch of shredded dried unsweetened coconut
1/4 avocado
1 walnut crushed and crumbled
Mix in bowl
Dust with just a tiny tiny sprinkle of bob red mill unbleached brown rice flour for binding
Roll into small little balls (makes about 8 balls)
Line freezer safe container with parchment paper
Freeze
Feed
Earl loves rummage in the parchment when I pull it out of the freezer and pick one out on his own...and then another...and another at which point I stop him after three.
And the best part is (I don't know about your babies but my Earl is a MESSY EATER! I used to worry that he wasn't actually getting anything in but just shredding food) I feel him on a clean counter and when he drops 1/2 of it I can gather it up and re-ball it and refreeze it! So there's very little waste! I know that sounds kinda gross but it's clean I swear!
And since they are frozen it helps him work his teeth when he's not busy getting down on his deer antler!
Anyway...if anyone else has some homemade foods (that includes them eating their vitamins) they like to feed their little baby buttons I'd love to get recipes from you guys!
