    Default Mom squirrel in heat while nursing?

    One of my releases, Little Sister, went into heat mid June, got pregnant, had babies August 6th, and appeared to be nursing.
    She's two and a half, this is her first litter.

    But she's doing the mating chase today (Aug. 31st). Which I thought wouldn't happen if they're nursing. Did something happen to her babies?

    I haven't gotten a good look at her belly in a few days to check for evidence of nursing, but her nipples are still dark and visible.

    I think her nest is on a tree limb that needs to be removed, and we're holding off on the tree maintenance on account of her having little ones... which is why I would like to know what's going on.

    Well, I think I've answered my own question - I got a look at her today and she doesn't look like she's nursing. Especially not month old pups.
