Is this a baby squirrel? Has he aspirated formula? If yes it would s probably aspiration pneumonia (AP) and he'll need antibiotics that might can save him if given very soon. Do you have any antibiotics?

Yes I'm sorry. A baby squirrel about 3 weeks 30g.

I just have Cifdinir 300mg capsule amd clindamycin 75mg/ 5ml.
Last night I gave 2 drops of clindamycin. I was told to do this by another rehabilitator, who believed it was pneumonia, until I got the correct cocktail of antibiotics.

Thank you for your response, I was not able to respond earlier because of website trouble.

Are we sure this is not "gaping", or guppy-mouth? non-life threatening.,.

Can you get the baby to stop gasping by gently blowing in his face or tapping him on the head? If it is just guppy mouth you can bring him out of it that way.

I really don't know. It does look like guppy mouth but I could not snap him out of it. Usually he stops on his own or I can snap him out of it. Is it normal for it to go on for so long? He did this for at least 20 minutes. Is that normal?

    Great point...

Does this baby have other symptoms? Guppy mouthing, or feeding trance happens usually during feedings. Here is an example vid of guppy mouthing notice the squirrel

Look at that tongue. That is classic guppy mouth. Was he actually gasping for air or did he just LOOK like he was gasping for air? Could you hear him?

Ok yes, he looked just like the little squirrel in the video that had its eyes still closed. He had his arms moving up and down as well. He hasn't done that before or for so so long. It looked like he was fighting for air the way those arms were moving and head kept going back. He did not make any noise though. So the length of time isn't concerning? That's what made me so scared as well.
He has no other symptoms. The only other thing is that he hasn't gained any weight in the last week and his sister has.
Thank you for the help. I found these 2 squirrels and could not reunite them with mom and rehabilitator could not take them. So I was given information and this site that has helped so much.
