Default 5month old black pet squirrel attacks

I really need help I have a 5month old black male squirrel who is attacking me . He chases me latches on and I have to pry him off but at night he allows me to scratch his head. He was 5weeks when I got him from Frazier farms . He was sweet until one day he was out of his cage and just attacked me as I was washing dishes. He has turned mean overnight he attacks my 7 month old eastern grey . I have them separated now. He has a huge cage plenty of toys and a large exercise wheel. What can I do it's winter if I start the soft release process near my home I'm afraid he will attack my grandkids or someone else. Also don't want him to freeze to death west Virginia winters are bitter cold. Help me please

Have you checked for food stash? My little guy is about the same age and was aggressive. I found his stash and took it out. Also, the other rehabbers will more than likely tell you this is his time for hormones to rage. I am sure one of them will chime in. This is a fabulous site to learn from.

I have checked for stash none but he still attacks me . I went and bought Kevlar to wear. It's that bad. But at night I can pet his head while he is in the soft log bed he sleeps in. It's going to be too could to do a soft release but he got out of his cage while I was at work found the nuts hid them all over the house and came at me as soon as I walked in the door.

What does his diet consist of? I hope much more than nuts. I’m sure your problem is more food aggressive related than hormones. It’s going to be a loooong winter if you don’t make some changes. I think you’re correct that it gets too cold to release before Spring, but others are more familiar with your climate than me. I wonder if there’s enough time before freezing temps set in for him to be released??

First, I’d eliminate all nuts. The very scenario you describe is why I don’t give any nuts till my squirrels are in the release cage. You’re going to have to cage him and search your house for stashes.

Edit: I looked up Frazier Farms and see that you purchased this squirrel, and you also have a grey squirrel? Did you purchase the grey one, too? So your plan was to not release either of them? I hope Frazier Farms guided you on the proper diet for squirrels. If not here’s the link.

You're further south than me and I have soft released squirrels much younger than yours right up until early December. Or, is it possible to overwinter him in a release pen? If you are going to allow him to run free in your home, this stashing thing is going to go on with every nut he gets.
