Default Toe(nail) injury (cw: wound pic, blood)

Hi, its Sister again. She's a release that has been back indoors with access to the outdoor/release cage while a wound on her flank is healing.
A little while ago she came in licking her back foot. And proceeded to track blood all over the room when I tried to look at it.
The bleeding has slowed - she's still licking it some but when she stops it doesn't leave a blood spot. She's puffed up and very obviously uncomfortable.

I can't tell if she's ripped the nail up and what I'm seeing is the quick (pulp?), or if she somehow broke her toe and that's a bit of bone sticking through the skin (the very red bit sticking out from above the pad).
I do have a vet, but it's an hour drive and I don't want to put her through the stress unless unnecessary.

*unless necessary. Typing fast on my phone here.

She's cleaned it up a little bit and I got a better look. Leaning towards ripped toenail + exposed quick/pulp.

I do apologize for the pictures I'll leave this one under the post instead of inline.

Did this happen in the house or release cage? If so, you need to go over the release especially carefully to fix whatever caused that. This squirrel is either incredibly clumsy or has really bad luck!

Clean with the diluted betadyne solution for sure.

It happened the cage, afaik. There's spots of blood on the branches/perches but I can't tell where it started. There's some gaps between the boards on the nest box, and the places where the branches are fixed the the cage...
The wire tunnel to the window is a possibility as well, and I've just modified that.

Sister's nails are longer than she's used to because she's been inside for two weeks... that may've contributed.

I will clean with the diluted betadine shortly. And I will get another set of eyes on the cage and see what we can figure out there.

Sister's toe looks much better now. The nail came off around 48hrs after and it didn't start bleeding again at all. She has favored that foot a little here and there, but only in a way that looks like she's trying not to bump the nail.
She's getting around without problems, including hanging upside down, so I'm not worried about any other damage.

She may've caught it where the wire tunnel makes contact with the window frame - I've fixed that, and she got access to the cage again today.
