Hello squirrel lovers! I know this is a place for squirrels and it’s this site I’ve used when I’ve raised at least a dozen squirrels throughout my lifetime but now I happen to be rehabbing a baby raccoon. I think she has pneumonia because she’s doing the dreaded clicking noise and breathes heavily. I have her on amoxicillin and its been 5 days and there has been little progress (one place I called did dose that for me and I’m not sure if it’s accurate but I took her word). I just ordered some Baytril 10 mg tabs from a bird website and I was wondering how much to give her. She weighs 1.8 lbs (I think I’m going to try and get a more accurate reading tomorrow weighing a raccoon is hard lol) Also when I give her the tablet should I crush it up and give it through a syringe and does it need to be diluted or can I just give her the tablet as is as and how many times per day? I have benebac can I also give her that a few hours after the baytril? And should I keep her on the amoxicillin with the baytril? If anyone could answer these questions and give me dosing instructions I would so appreciate it. There is no wildlife vet near me and the ton I have called refuse to give me advice. Thanks!!
