    Unhappy Upper respiratory infection

Petey is a 1 pound 8 year old squirrel with upper respiratory infection, a couple questions: how much ciprofloxacin 250 mg. Do I give him and for how long, next: what child decongestant do I give him while waiting for the Cipro? I'm told this is a very serious issue with high mortality if not addressed. The rehabbers in my area are useless, they don't return phone calls and forget wildlife vets, they won't even see these critters (family to me), one last thing imy using a baby aspirator bulb. He's not feeling well and I need help asap, thank you all for any advice!!

Do you have the Cipro and can confirm it is 250mg tablets?

You will need a 1cc (1ml) syringe to dilute and dose this. If you do not have one, you may be able to get one from your pharmacist. Tell them you are nursing a baby guinea pig or something. Obviously you do not need nor want the needle.

I have sent you dilution and dosing info by private message. If you are not familiar with reading a syringe, please ask here on the board - you do not want to guess. I have also sent info on dosing for Children's Benadryl.

How soon will you have the Cipro? If you are waiting for a shipment, call around to friends or family, ask on FB - whatever. It is frequently prescribed for UTIs so ask your female friends. It is likely you will find 500mg as that is most commonly prescribed. If you do so, the ONLY thing that will change in the instructions I sent you is the amount of water you dilute with. The 250mg pill is diluted with 11ml water; the 500mg pill would be diluted with 22ml water. The doses would be the same.

Be careful with the baby bulb. They work well but you don't want to have too much suction. Don't squeeze it more than halfway.
