Im not computer literate i have had a few posts where you huys have helped me greatly. One was the ripped out claw infection we recovered greatly from the other was tail injury times 2. Day of release she foumd wau home had bleading end of tail missing hair. We cleaned no infection healed teied release weeks later she refused to be releases clung to my wouldnt go so we looked up life expectancy of 3 yrs in wild 20 in captivity so we decided if she chose us we chose her let her stay she is free roam unless we are gone or guests. She had a really bad tale injury i posted about a while back i dont now how to pull up and continue from that threat. The eand of her tail turned black and eventually fell off. We are in massachusetts where they will take her and kill her rather than help her. So you guys are only hope. After tail healed it was slightly bulbus at the end and she never ever let us touch it always happy healthy playful but as i run tail through fingers i have to be careful never touch tip of she freaks we always thought it was ptsd or something. Few times we tourcherd her wrapped her up and as carefully as possible moved hair around to see grey skin on bulb if discolored while she mowed and cued in fear. Than sever long cuddle sessions and spoiling. That mouw sends shivers down me knowing she is in pain. I accidentally touched tail today and i dont know if its me or not bulb feels larger but i dont know all i know is it is in pain when touched. There is no way to get photo without shaving tail and having 2 people hold her down wrapped in a blanket and 2 people work the tail one to hold move hair one to take picture and since she only accepts me and vanessa and we live alone we wont have that help. We try checking her tail she goes into 4x4 mode and turns into little valasaraptor and we do not want to associate us with fear to keep trying to look. We just lost her best freind our 5 pound chipoo dog so shes all we have. As long as we dont touch tail she is fine but im worried could there be a cyst or some kind of scaring that has never ending tenderness. If you can find my old post the picks of original injury are there pleasee help. My phone is wonkey sometimes this biard doesnt load please feel free to email joshatwestovertrailer my google account. Thank you.

What about a little over-the-counter lidocaine cream on her tail? Just don’t let her lick it because it tastes awful. That might help you figure out whether she’s in pain—if she lets you touch it when it’s numb, then it must be hurting. If the cream doesn’t make a difference, then it could be behavioral or a deeper nerve pain.

I’m sorry I can’t come up with any more solutions than that, but without being able to take her to a vet (and you’d have to have a very experienced, very patient-stress/anxiety-conscious one), it might be hard to completely figure it out.

A little ice on the tail might work as diagnostic pain relief, too. Just approach it like if you used an ice pack on yourself. You wouldn’t want to hold it too long, because that could cause pain or damage the skin.
