Question about 2 captive male squirrels and mating

Buddy is 1 yr & 2 months old. Rocky is about 8 months old. When we let them out to play, Buddy constantly chases Rocky around but lately has been trying to hump Rocky. I think this is his mating season since he is a Florida squirrel. Buddy has also been humping some of his stuffed animals then cleaning off his private areas. Is this normal? Today when I tried to pet him and let Rocky rest, he got aggressive with me and I put him back in his cage.. it broke my heart. Is his behavior normal and will it ease up after mating season?

I appreciate any help anyone can give me.
