Default Thinning hair and head sores, 7 mth old

My 7 month old squirrel Buddy, started losing his back hair right about the time we rescued a 5 week old baby squirrel that had mites and severely dehydrated. We kept them apart and still do. We started Buddy on puppy revolution 7 days ago. Now he seems to have developed head sores. One last week, scabbed over now and a new one tonight. He has become very nervous acting and somewhat agitated. We only used one drop of revolution so far.
He has a 4 ft by 3 ft cageName: 20201202_161547.jpg

Size: 63.4 KB by 6 foot tall & he loves it. He loves Henry's blocks and my husband makes boo balls for him. He eats his vegetables, not as good as the blocks but he has well balanced nutrition. He is not gaining weight, he just seems so active all the time. Any help is appreciated.

Revolution is dosed at 1 drop and not repeated for a month. Try diluting some Betadine with water till it looks like strong tea. Use a cotton round and wipe down any areas that are missing hair or where he has sores. No need to rinse. The betadine has anti fungal and antibacterial properties and it won’t be sticky when it dries. The sores could be from him scratching.

You could also give him a bath with unscented baby bath soap and then use the diluted betadine. Make sure he’s dried well and doesn’t get chilled after bathing him.

Thank you for suggesting the Betadine. I will pick some up today. The hair on top of head is very brittle, so I'm pretty sure he got some mites from the baby, Rocky squirrel. The brittle may cause him to scratch more.

Before I read about revolution I tried Silvadene liquid on his bald areas and put a bit in his water, we thought it might be fungal to start with.

I can't help but worry about him. And I think a bath is out of the question, unless I get him a muzzle. I tried to wipe him down one day and he didn't just bite me, he attacked my arm, he was mad! We had a good talk and he hasn't done so since but I probably won't try that again.

Does it look like mites to you? He hasn't had any sores with his balding hair until last week on his head.

It’s hard to tell in the dark picture you posted but it looks like he is missing almost all the fur on his back and side. Is this correct? Is the skin red and crusty? Or just exposed skin?

If it’s mites or mange the Revolution should take care of it. The diluted betadine won’t hurt h8m so I’d definitely do that. If there are any areas with dry spots or brittle hair you can rub a little coconut oil into them. Use just the regular coconut oil people buy for cook8ng. It also has anti fungal properties and I think it helps with hair regrowth.

The hair on his head is brittle so I will massage it with coconut oil.

His hairless back skin looks downy & soft, no red or crust. I have upped his feeding with more squirrel blocks and boo balls & vegetables and he seems less hyper.

Thank you so much for your help, I’ll let you know how it works.

Revolution has been upgraded, a second active ingredient has been added. The Revolution Plus has little track record for use on squirrels and the manufacturer warns you that you shouldn't use it on cats with neurological problems. This could be the source of the agitation. The old version of Revolution is now available as a generic.
