Hi please help with dosing I have a 4 week old 118 gram squirrel with clicking while breathing. I have available 250 mg Cephalon
500 mg amoxicillin or
125 mg clavomax
Which is better to use and what would the dosage be now or per gram as he's gaining a bit everyday. Thank you so much really don't want this little guy to die

Can you clarity the Clavamox for me, I want to make certain what you have before I assist with the dosing.

Is this a tablet, with Amoxicillin 100mg and clavulanic acid 25mg?

The clicking is persistent, even when he sleeps for example, and not just after eating? Has there been a loss of appetite?

Can you elaborate on "pretty constant"? With Aspiration Pneumonia (AP) the click is almost always persistent... it is like the hiccups, the cannot not click when they breath.

As there been a loss of energy or increased lethargy?

He clicks everytime he breaths from what I can hear. He sleeps constantly except when he is wiggling around to find a more comfortable spot or when I feed him. His eyes are still closed. I've had him since Sunday. I had to take my aunt to chemo yesterday so my husband fed him and he said that he aspirated when he fed him. His appetite hasn't decreased at all.

What means are you using to feed the squirrel and what are they being fed?

Using the long nipple and the o ring 1ml syringe I also have the mini nipples but he seems to like the long nipples better

While aspirating during feeding is what causes aspiration pneumonia (AP), aspirating does not always result in AP. Just posting this because I think it is important to re-emphasize this for everyone reading.

It is good his appetite has not diminished, but with the clicking I would give the Clavamox for 5 days.

Diarrhea is not a symptom of AP (just putting this out there for everyone). What color was the diarrhea?

We'd love to see pictures of your baby.. does he have a name?

The diarrhea is yellow.. thought we were over it. Hadn't had it all day but just had a bit more a few minutes ago..i thought maybe it was because we just got the fox valley in Wednesday and switched from the yogurt goat milk heavy cream egg mix. I'm using my phone to view the board and can't figure out how to post a pic But if someone can walk me thru it I will gladly do it. I haven't named this one yet. He's trying to open his eyes but their not quite ready. We also have Biggie who is an 11 month old male. I found him and his twin last October. His twin was successfully released in our ranch but biggie was not able to be released.. my 4 year old has decided to name our new boy Beau.

The formula switch seems the most likely culprit. Offer some extra hydration in between feedings and keep us posted on Beau's prgress.

Just to be thorough... these can cause diarrhea.... mix up the formula well ahead of time using very hot water. Let is sit 6 hours or so (preferably overnight in the fridge) before feeding; this allows the formula to dissolve as best it will.

Never reuse heated formula... if formula is heated but not fed to the squirrel, or refused, toss it out.

Store the opened Fox Valley powder in the freezer... or minimally in the fridge.. once the package has been opened.

I didn't know the formula had to be frozen. It's been open about a day but in my kitchen counter. That's how I stored it before with biggie. Well it be OK if I put it in the freezer now? I've been hydrating in between feedings since yesterday thank y'all for the help I really appreciate it
