Question Diarrhea: What else can I do?

    Hello 👋🏼

My little squirrel has had diarrhea going on three days. Day one I started noticing her stool was getting running, day two and three( today) have been pure sticky goop. I’m following the care guide from the Henry’s Healthy Pets website and replacing every other feeding with hydration so she doesn’t dehydrate. She isn’t acting sick but she has lost about 2 grams, from 78 to 76g. She definitely isn’t dehydrated but she also isn’t getting better yet. How long should I expect this to go on before I see improvement? Is there something else I can do to help this girl out?

She’s about 4 weeks old, has lower teeth and getting white belly fur but no eyes yet. She weighs about 76g and is on Esbilac powder formula. I have been feeding her 7% of her body weight but went down to 5% when the diarrhea began, feeding every 4 hours.

I’ve called another vet (this one for exotic pets) and they won’t touch her. Whatever this baby needs I have to do myself, any help and suggestions would be gratefully appreciated! Thanks!

Here is a tried and true diarrhea fix (BRAT diet):

3 tablespoons (already) mixed formula 2-1 (w/ nothing else added)
1/2 tsp baby rice powered cereal
    1/2 tsp banana baby food.

    Keep us updated.

  3. Serious fuzzy thank you's to Spanky from:

I LOVE pepto bismol for diarrhea in these guys.

Give baby one or two drops. Then watch the stool. When the color turns really dark - almost black, you know the pepto has gone through the system (bismuth in it causes the color change - don't freak out). If you are seeing black poop but it is still runny, give another dose. If it is starting to dry up and form, you may need to only give once.

Thanks for the help! She’s better today, her poop has gone back to how it was on day one. I have pepto on hand now so I think I’ll do that. I’ll update on how that goes.

I’m adding a few photos of her, I think she’s still looking healthy and she’s definitely still developing, her tail changed seemingly overnight! Isn’t she adorable?!
