    Question Pregnant squirrel question

    Hello Squirrel lovers!
Did any of you had an experience of having a pregnant squirrel? How do they behave?

My squirrel(pretty sure she is pregnant) is very protective of her nest. Also last night she cried the whole time with her little squeaks. Not very loud. But i could hear cause i did not sleep. And she slept whole day and only came out in the evening. Now she still keeps crying. I suspect its ither she feels pain, or she has already given birth....and its the baby squirrels crying. hmmm... her nest is high up on my shelf. So i cannot see. But the cries are there only when she is near to her nest... so confusing...

It sounds as though she’s already given birth. The little squeaks are probably her babies. They become very protective of their nests when babies are inside.

If also noticed in the wild, which I know isn’t your situation, they tend to adjust their time away from the nest to early evenings when other squirrels are less likely to be around. Then stay in the nest with the babies during the daytime.

I would come up with a way to see into the nest without upsetting her. What about those little mirrors on extendable poles that mechanics use to look under cars without crawling around? It would be nice to be able to monitor their condition so if you see fat you leave her and them alone and if they are skinny you will have to step in.
