Hello,

I've recently read that the rabies virus can last fairly long outside a host as long as the environment is moist. I find shells all over my yard from feeding birds and squirrels, a yard which also has skunks and raccoons come through now and again. While clearing up seed and nut shells doing yard work on an overcast moist morning, I realized I had some broken skin on my hands and wondered if its possible to get rabies cross-contamination from the shells that had been eaten by the animals. Is this possible?

Thanks,

DJ
