Default 10 wk old single Fox Squirrel- Release help Los Angeles

Hi, I found a 4 wk old female fox squirrel (according to a rehabber who saw pictures) that was uninjured and rehabbed her. She is beautiful and healthy and I am a bit overwhelmed at the proper release process. Someone told me that fox squirrels need to be released in a group? I'm worried because she was raised alone and is now 10/11 wks old.

I live in a busy neighborhood with lots of outdoor cats around so I also don't feel like my immediate neighborhood is good for her. She is sweet and friendly but not overly bonded and I can see she has some wild in her and I want to give her a good life. She has never been around dogs or cats so I'm not worried about her not being afraid of them.

Any suggestions on how to release a single fox squirrel when my area is not ideal? Or any Los Angeles (or driving distance) rehabbers willing to help or introduce her to a similar aged group if she is indeed supposed to be with others to release successfully?

Help is appreciated Pic attached of this gorgeous girl.

I'm checking with a person I know in Los Angeles who helps rehab squirrels. She usually gets back to me within 24 hours. Hang in there, I'll let you know!

Not sure! I had one rehabber say that to me so I posted on the board to find out if that was true. Hopefully others will chime in!

Actually I've never heard that. It's always best to release a squirrel with a friend or as part of a group BUT it is certainly not required. Flying squirrels must be released as part of a colony.

Singletons can definitely be released. I would assume that grey squirrels and fox squirrels are similar in that respect. I have released several grey singletons. After grey squirrels are released they will hang out together for a while but then they go their separate way. I would be curious to hear if foxers are different.

That is a precious and beautiful baby you have there.

I don't think that is true either. I hope the number I gave you helps. P.m. with any other concerns or questions, I'll be happy to do what I can
