    Exclamation Ear infection help needed!

Hi! My 2 1/2 year old Peanut is suffering from what definitely appears to be an ear infection. Looks to be focused in the ear canal area...I picked quite a bit of gunk out of it this morning. It’s also very red, and warm to the touch. She has an appointment with my vet, but the earliest they could see her is Monday afternoon. I’m panicking, and hoping it doesn’t get any worse. I’m wondering if there’s anything at all I can do for her at home to ease the symptoms in the meantime??? Thank you!

You might try a warm compress on her ear to see if that soothes her, it might also promote drainage.

Yes, heat can be very soothing for ear infections in squirrels. I have a little girly who struggled with ear infections for quite sometime and she loved to lay against her microwaveable stuffed pig when her ears were bothering her. You could always try a sock buddy (sock filled with uncooked rice) and heat it up a little in the microwave to see if that would bring her some relief. I wouldn’t make it hot, just warm to the touch. I’m glad she is going to the vet Monday. Hopefully with the right meds, she will be able to kick this quickly. My Ana was prescribed both oral and otic antibiotics for her ear infection. Hope little Peanut will be feeling better soon.

Thank you so much! A sock buddy is a wonderful idea, I will definitely try that! I’m so glad your Ana has recovered. I’ve heard that ear infections can be tough to get rid of. Hoping for the best tomorrow! ❤️
