    Question Expanding Bald Patch

    Greetings!

Our favorite squirrel has been experiencing an expanding bald patch (see attached photo). It may not be clear in the photo but the exposed skin is somewhat reddish (though not raw) and scaly.

We have been feeding her coconut and avocado, based on what we have heard is beneficial for this condition, but so far it doesn't seem to have been helping.

Any ideas as to how we might be able to better help her?

She went through the motions of getting ready to have a litter recently, building a new nest in a new location. But she doesn't seem to be spending much time in that nest and she is clearly not nursing, so we're not sure what's up with her. She is about 2.5 years of age, if any of that helps to know.

    Dan

    Hi there. She is beautiful!

Coconut oil can be useful if you are trying to treat ringworm, which is a fungus. What you're describing sounds like mange, or mites.

It can be treated with ONE drop of puppy/kitten Revolution (under 5 lb) between the shoulder blades. (*the strength is 60mg/ml)

Hope that helps. If you can't buy it locally, there's a site called Joe's meds where members have ordered it online.

    Thank you so much!

We had some Revolution on hand, so I applied the drop between the shoulder blades as you suggested. (It seemed like a big drop but I only squeezed the tube once.)

With a little luck, that will help her.

    Thank you again!

  5. Serious fuzzy thank you's to Dan from:
