Hand-reared Eastern Gray Squirrel is non-releasable because of mal-occluded front teeth. I live in a house in New York City and I cannot provide an appropriate setting for her. You must be prepared to care for her for the next seven to ten years. You must be a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and be able to clip her front teeth twice a month. She is about 4 months old. About 450 grams. She has a sister who is being over-wintered with her. Both have mal-occlusion problems. Her sister may improve. So, I am hopeful. I can't keep them because I live in NYC and don't have suitable space for adult squirrels. Typically, I take in neonates and orphans and them turn them over to other rehabbers for soft release. I am letting them out of the cage at dusk. They play for a while and then return to their "house" for the night. But, this is clearly insufficient for them.
