Default Nursing mom with eye infection - Is Clavavox ok?

    Hi,
I have a former release who has an eye infection. It's been going on for a while, but it's the worst it's been so far this morning. Her eye is red and puffy with a white discharge. Poor Sweet Pea

I can't trap her to treat with drops, because she is nursing. All I could do is give AB in food. She does come everyday, so I could manage twice a day. She comes on my lap and everything.

My question: Would Clamavox work for that and is it okay for a nursing mom? I have "Wild Mammal Babies" book, but it does not mention anything about nursing.

Here is another picture to help me guesstimate her weight.

Yes you can give Clavamox to a nursing mom.
What strength do you have and do you need help dosing this?

Thanks so much for the quick reply Nancy
I am okay dosing, once I would have an estimate for her weight. I don't have enough experience myself to make a good guess. I would say maybe 750 gr? I know she is on the heavier side compared to other squirrels. Can you help me guess her weight from that second picture I have? Also How many days should I administer? That would be very helpful.

    Thanks!

I think your guesstimate is pretty darned close.

If you can dose her twice daily that's ideal.
Also, if you can somehow give probiotics ~2 hours after her initial dose
that would be perfect. Cillians upset the tummy.

When I have to dose an outside squirrel, I put it on a shelled pecan half if the crevices
and let it dry. I have never had a problem doing it that way. AND I can make
them up ahead of time. (Typically I do 2 doses a day ahead)

I would administer at least 7 days, and see how it goes then.

    Thank you Nancy
I just prepared the only solution I was able to. All I have is a little more than 3.5 ml (3.5 ml + powder). So, with a dosage of 0.24 ml, 7 days will be the max I can give her. I hope it will do the trick and I won't waste any. I'll do my best trying to give probiotics, but that will probably be tricky to do. She would need to show up 3-4 times a day...

Default Nursing mom with eye infection that won't heal withClamavox (after 12 days)

I am getting pretty discouraged with Sweet Pea

At this point, she'd had 12 days of ABS (Clamavox) and this is what her eye looks like this morning.

There was a moment I thought her eye was finally improving, but then it went back the other way again. This pic was taken 4 days ago when It was encouraging.

I'm at a loss about what to do next... Sweet Pea is my little sweet heart. I care so much about her. I care about them all, but she holds a very special place in my heart. This is heartbreaking for me to want to help so badly, but not succeeding. I feel very limited since she is wild and nursing. Anybody has advice for me? Please help if you can or say a prayer for my girl

    How is Sweet Pea?
If it's not working, then you may want to post in Emergency forum, because it does look like a serious issue.

Thanks for caring Astra. I'm sorry, I only noticed your post today as I came here to post about something else.

Sweet Pea's eye finally cleared up, thank goodness! I am soooo relieved! I am not sure what ended up working, because after 13 days of antibiotics (until I ran out), it was still looking bad. I started colloidal silver (in food) and Reiki and the next day, her eye looked okay. Whatever worked, I'm happy it did!
