Please help! Normal stool or diarrhea?????

I've had him for 3 days. After rehydrating for about 24 hours, we switched him to 1 part esbilac and 4 parts water. His stool has been a normal dark brown poop. Today we started 1 part esbilac 3 parts water, and earlier his poop was normal, but now it is light brown and mushier. Still in the form of solid poop but I hope this isn't a sign of diarrhea. I fed him about 3-4 CC every 3 hours the past 2 days, but tonight I've been giving him closer to 7-10cc because he seems sooo hungry. Like he keeps wanting more! Am I over feeding him? I assume he is only 3 weeks because he only has the bottom two teeth, and weighs a little under 100 grams. He is very squirmy and makes squeaky sounds now and then so I assume that is healthy baby behavior. Give me all the help you can!

Be sure to use the powdered Esbilac and not the liquid Esbilac: They are not the same.

The only way to know the proper amount to feed each feeding is to weigh him daily. You can get an inexpensive kitchen scale at Wal-Mart for like $15. Then you should be feeding between 5% and 7% of their body weight in ml at each feeding. So for example, if the little guy weights 50gm, then they would be fed between 2.5ml and 3.75ml. Here is a little "cheat sheet" that is easy to post on the fridge:



Formula poop is more brown / mustard than the dark brown / black poop that they do when on mommy's milk.

He is very hungry because he has not eaten in a while... continue to increase the ratio of formula ever 2 - 3 feedings until you get to full strength (2 parts water,to 1 part Esbilac). It helps to mix the formula up at least 4 hours in advance of feeding to give it time to more fully dissolve.

Can you post some pictures for us? If you do we can help guess the weight if you do not have a scale, but a scale is a "must" to care for him (her?) properly!

Your over feeding. Even at 100 grams 7% would be 7cc and one should not be feeding 7% until
long after their system is well adjusted. If your feeding the correct formula I suggest mixing
as suggested, diluting also dilutes the nutritionists.
