    Default Is this a botfly?

This little girl has two lumps, one on each shoulder. Just wondering, is this what botflies look like, or is it something else? They've been there at least a week. Not sure if you can really see the one on the left in these pictures.

Edit: sorry if that second picture is showing up twice, I messed something up.

Hard to see, but it does look as though it could be bots. Is there a sort of hole in the middle of the lump?

I can't tell for sure. There's a little spot in the middle, but it doesn't really look like a hole. I cropped it in a little bit, so hopefully you can see better. She didn't show up today until it was getting dark, so I couldn't get really sharp pictures.

I am not sure, but it certainly could be bots. Others having more experience will be along, I'm sure.

It looks like a bot hole to me too. Unfortunately I have to deal with them every year. Nasty little things! Oddly enough, it almost looks like a hole where a bot has recently exited. Either way if it is a bot, the squirrel should be just fine unless she ends up covered in them.

Thanks, everyone. Poor thing. Is it painful or anything for the squirrel?

Most the time I don't believe it's too painful for them unless it's in a place that is sensitive, like near an eye or something like that. I think they're mostly just very irritating to the squirrel and are very itchy from what I've observed.

That's good to know. I've definitely seen her scratching a whole lot!
