Harness Training

Any tips? I have a 5 and 7 week old who I'd like to harness train but they are scared when I put them on. I started putting them on during feedings and they are getting a bit used to it. Thank you in advance.

I have never seen anyone successfully harness train a healthy squirrel. Why do you want to do this? Are these healthy releasable squirrels?!?!?!

My squirrel does not like it when I put her harness on, but she is fine after that. She grumbles and pitches a fit sometimes, but the more consistent you are with it (putting the harness on daily), the more they get used to it and all is well.

It is good that you are starting out at this age, and is good that you found something that will fit a 7 week old squirrel. I had to make a harness.

Just don't get it too tight or they will have issues and act like the world is coming to an end. Make sure though, the most snug part should be just behind the arms around the chest. Ones that go around the head only will not work, they have to go around the head and behind the arms to be secure. They will get out if it is not one that goes around both. Too loose and they will slip out. too tight and they pitch a fit.

I always wondered how a harnessed squirrel who tried to jump doesn't get snapped back and injured. Or are people using to, like, lift them up and take their feet off the ground? I don't get it.
