    Default Broken leg

One of our "regulars" showed up today with his left leg broken. Looks like a compound fracture, and there's some swelling. Despite it, he's getting around ok.

The only rehabber we could reach said they'd look at him, but if the injury is too great, they'd euthanize him.

I'm stuck as to what to do....not sure if I should let nature take its course or see what they say.

    TIA for the advice.

Do you have a back deck? If you do, I can design a catch mechanism for you, ship the traps over night, and then you can catch him and take him to a Vet.

I can send 6 traps to you, all the cord necessary to control them from inside, and the hardware to put the catch mechanism together. You just need to ship it back, after I overnight it to you and you catch your regular with the broken leg.

But please send a picture tomorrow and monitor when they are on your deck. Some pictures of the lay out and available windows for access are paramount.

Thanks, we have a trap and are ready to catch him. He actually walked into it, but another squirrel scared him away.

I will try to stay home tomorrow and see if he returns. What if I catch him and take him to the rehabber and they want to put him down?? Then what?

I've raised on squirrel, but am really not sure about helping an injured one!

Here is how I caught Pinky The Hairless Squirrel. She developed a Prolapse of the rectum. So I caught her and took her to the Vet.

All of my traps are controllable from inside, so you do not catch the wrong squirrel. I just moved her thread to the top of the Infirmary if you want to see her story.

Wow, that's quite the contraption Scott!!! Yes, that's how we were trying too.

So, for Mo (he has a Mohawk so we named him Mo)...we didn't see him at all yesterday. I feared the worst, but here he comes today, putting more weight on it, getting around like nobodies business, and the swelling was way down.

So, I think he'll be fine, and I won't interfere.

Thanks so much for the quick responses....
