Looking at cages for a six-week old Gray to grow into, currently he's staying in a cat carrier. Is this a good cage at a good price? No idea!

Looks like a terrific cage for him in a month or so. Be very cautious about a big cage for a little guy. Falls happen all the time and result in terrible troubles for little guys. He will need something between a carrier and this cage. I use a low, traditional guinea pig cage.

SammysMom is right. My guys don't go into my high level cages (5 ft) until they are at least 9-10 wks old. These Precision dog crates are terrific intermediate cages for squirrels. I have a small and a medium:

The big doors mean you can fit a nest box inside, and the slide-out bottom tray makes cleaning an absolute breeze. Mine are over 20 yrs old and still look fine. I also use them as travel cages when transporting squirrels, because they are absolutely chew-proof (all metal).

Hey there neighbor!! Good to see we've got some more good ole Louisianian's here!
What's your little one's history? Diet? Release plans, etc?
Of course, we love pictures!

Just seems like he might be able to squeeze out. Or maybe this one. https://www.amazon.com/Precision-Pet...est+wire+crate
Hello! I found a roughly five-week old Gray in the tornado wreckage about two weeks ago in New Orleans East. I've been bottle feeding him Espilac and just started introducing other foods this week (wet cat food, shaved carrots, apple, rodent biscuit.) His teeth are still way too small so he just kind of sucks on things. My goal is to get him back out in the wild but I couldn't find a rehabber locally to help. There is a sanctuary on the north shore I've considered but....I'm kind of in love...

I work on the South shore, but live on the North shore and am always willing to help be it raising, releasing, etc. I've got 3 long terms, 2 new babies (3-4 weeks old), and 2 in my release cage currently.
Eliminate that cat food. Bad news for a little guy like him. Also, stop with the fruits until he eats all of his rodent blocks. (like teaching a toddler that they can eat dessert before dinner!) What brand of rodent blocks are you offering?
He's SO cute! What's his name?
Also, are you syringe feeding or bottle feeding?

Openings in that dog crate are WAY too big. Always check the bottom of the cage under the tray. They will lift the tray and go straight out! Learned that one from experience!

Yes, I'm syringe feeding. Initially was using a dropper bottle but he was sneezing up too much milk. I bought him some Oxbow "Simple Rewards Baked Treats" because they didn't have the kind of biscuits or rodent block I was looking for at Petco. Suggestions?
Ended up buying a smaller ferret cage, but don't plan to put him in it for a few weeks. Would love to talk to you to both pick your brain and maybe discuss adoption....
