Sherman Fox Squirrel - ???

Hey

I do not wish to be a problem to anyone, but due to interest I did a couple hours of research and looked at dozens of photos and videos.

Um: The squirrels originally asked about are a completely different set of squirrels as the fox squirrel series of photos. In the end, the ones you found are adorable, and probably it does not matter which subspecies they are.

But the original batch found and questioned involves an inky black underbelly and underchin, with a light, agouti forehead and overcoat. There are no white ears and no white chin.

Sherman's Fox Squirrels have a black forehead, not an agouti/tan one. They most of the time have white snouts and chins (including underchin) and white ear markings.

I hope it is not offensive for me to mention this. I am not trying to be disagreeable. I like to ferret out research when I can and am interested (if I won a superlotto, I would probably want to go squirrel-watching the way some folks bird-watch. I would want to see and take a photo of every kind of squirrel and marking there is. So I was excited to learn about the Sherman Fox Squirrel. I have been sheltered when it comes to squirrels.) If my post rubs anyone's fur the wrong way, I apologize. At any rate, the cuteness factor of the inky underchin and underpelt is off the charts.

Just based on where they were found, Michigan, they are NOT Sherman's unless they were caught in Florida and moved there. But I think that tomcics thread shows the many color variations they see in Michigan in particular in the gray squirrels as well as the foxers. They seem to run the gamut of colors!

But I think that tomcics thread shows the many color variations they see in Michigan in particular in the gray squirrels as well as the foxers. They seem to run the gamut of colors!

I am starting to think they might be a variation of Michigan's Fox Squirrel instead of a Sherman....... as I looked them up and I saw several with black bellies and one that had black arms, legs, head and belly.

Everything I seen on tomcics thread I've seen here by me.....I'm West of Grand Rapids. We've got Grays, Blacks, Foxers, and Chipmunks. It's very early for babies here in Michigan. Can't help but wonder if they were brought in from out of State.

It's a possibility that they originated from some other area.

I answer phone messages for a licensed wildlife rehabber while she's busy seeing "patients". I've gotten several calls over the past 3 years of babies (mostly birds) that were found in trailers or unused cars. These babies ended up far away from their parents when the trailer/car was moved.

I am with redwuff, just so beautiful and adorable and gorgeous, gosh I'd love to see a fox squirrel, let alone have these little munchkins to love on, they would die from excess kissing And extreme squeezing I think
