Default Abscess/boil/bite-what is on my baby squirrels skin??

I found this baby squirrel about a week ago. She is maybe 3-4 weeks old and otherwise doing great. My aunt is a rehabber but lives pretty far away so I haven't been able to bring the squirrel to her right away. When I found her, she had this bite/ boil on her underarm. It hasn't gotten any bigger and it looks like the redness has gone away but this morning I noticed a couple of little purple dots in the middle of the boil/abscess/bite/whatever it is. I'm still very worried. Can anyone tell me what this is or what I should do? Any info would be MUCH appreciated! Thank you! (Will post pics in the morning)

Hmmmmm--you live in Texas--and Texas is warm. Could be a warble. Watch it. If it's warm or pussey you'll see and antibiotics can be dosed. If it's a bot warble the nasty f¥€#£r will make a breathing hole and you'll be able to see it move (absolutely GROSS). They can be removed but don't want to kill it or it will kill your baby with it's evil bot toxins. It will grow to epic proportions and leave all by itself. For now, keep a close eye on it. A warm compress could be soothing what ever the heck it is and if it IS an abscess will help it come to a head.

That does look like an abscess. On the first pic it appears to have a dark spot. Is that a scab? If so I would use a warm damp compress on that to see if the scab will come off. If you can get it to drain, antibiotics probably won't be needed. It will need to drain to heal though.

  7. Serious fuzzy thank you's to HRT4SQRLS from:

There was a scab there when I first found her and it fell off shortly after. The purple spots looks more like bruising.
