Exclamation Cuddle Rose Has No Bladder Control

Cuddle Rose arrived Thursday, some of you gave me great rehydration advice, etc. She is doing great. We are off the diluted formula, and her first stools started to arrive last night. She is building strength and is more active each day. Her eye issue has cleared up.

HOWEVER... Has anyone encountered a baby, aprox 4 weeks, that does not need stimulating and just urinates on itself? Cuddle Rose seems to urinate on herself when she is sleeping. If I am holding her, she does not leak drops of urine. If I stimulate her, maybe 1-2 drops of urine will emerge. Her groin area is always wet with urine when I get her out to feed her. She reeks of urine. I have to clean her up frequently and I am concerned about urine scald, skin infection, etc.

Her privates seem to protrude, I believe from her lack of muscle & low weight. Perhaps a bladder infection? Defect?

I'm interested in hearing any similar stories, any advice from the experts....any one with thoughts, concerns, ideas! I'm really concerned for this little one.....

Sounds like a UTI to me....I would begin a course of Baytril asap.

Started Baytril last evening. She then didn't want to eat... But eating today. Praying this will help solve the urine mystery.

....she has no clue that she is urinating when it happens.... I had her out earlier to feed and she was wet again. While feeding, she urinated.... There isn't any blood. Lets hope a few days of Baytril will work.

I've watched cuddle rose closely all day. She IS just leaking drop by drop urine. Praying that putting on weight and baytril will give her more control. I've only had her 5 days, meds for two days.. For now, I'm resorting to daily bath and cornstarch dusting at each feeding. I'm concerned for her skin.

You know the routine, keep it clean and dry thoroughly. It sounds like you're doing all that you can with it, unless you're going to make a little squirrel diaper.

Cornstarch is absorbent and helps keep skin dry.

Here's a how-to link for cute, teensie tiny cloth diapers. Are you any good at crafts?

This morning cuddle rose was much more dry! Not completely, but improved a little. She doesn't like to be stimulated. She actually squatted to urinate "like a big girl" this morning.....right on my bed.... The dose of meloxicam yesterday really made her more comfortable last night too, and she tried to play with a stiffed animal for the first time. I should have thought about her pain level 2 days ago.

Still learning to be a good squammy.....
