***NEW ISSUE*** The little girl is now having a consistent LOUD clicking sound when she breathes. I'm sadly assuming it is pneumonia and I know there are meds for it, but have no idea what they are or how to obtain them. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Not sure how close this is to you.

Nancy gave you vet info. That's where you need to go for the meds to treat the AP.

Excellent advice. This sounds like aspiration pneumonia AND coccidiosis. Needs a vet, ASAP.

Yes great advice from everyone, thank you! I would definitely take little girl to the veterinarian in Raleigh, but seeing my work schedule, I would not be able to do so until this weekend. Are there any medications I could get on my own to treat her? She's perking up just the slightest bit from the pedialyte, but still has a faint clicking sound. Thanks in advance.

Call all your friends and family NOW. You are looking for Baytril (cats and dogs ONLY), Ciprofloxacin (human and animal), Clavamox or Augmentin (human and animal). You need one pill.

You have to work fast (like right NOW) or she will die. Aspiration pneumonia takes them down fast.

After you have the pill we need to know the following:

    What is it?
What is the strength of it?
How much does the squirrel weigh in grams?

Ideally this needs to be done tonight. She may or may not make it through the night.

This will not fix the coccidia, it's for the AP ONLY. If you don't find the meds or take her to the vet the coccidia meds won't be needed....

EDIT: And if I remember correctly you said all you had was a 5cc syringe. That won't work for meds. You MUST find a 1cc syringe to dose meds to an animal so small.

Thank you for the info. What about cipro? Prescribed for a bladder infection? I can give it to her tonight if it is what she needs. I have no way to weigh her tonight, is there some other way I can measure her weight without a scale? And I got a 1 cc syringe today along with Esbilac. She took 1 1/2 cc's on her own!! I just want to get control of the pneumonia ASAP. Thanks!

Default HELP! 3/4 WEEK OLD WITH PNEUMONIA. CIPRO FOR TREATMENT???

I just recently posted another post about my 3/4 week old grey female. She is showing signs of aspiration pneumonia, and I was wondering if a Cipro pill is an acceptable form of treatment? It was an antibiotic prescribed for a bladder infection. ANY help would be appreciated!!!

Yes it is! We need a weight on her and a strength on the cipro to help you to dose. Tell us about her symptoms though.

Thank you so much!!!! I will get the cipro from my family member in about an hour and I'm going to go to Walmart to get a scale... I don't currently have a scale. In my other post, I put that I recieved her and her brother last Tuesday and I gave them pedialyte for about 12 hours. Then I bought PetAg puppy replacement milk and gave it to them every 2 hours and each of them ate anywhere from 1-2 cc's. I then read that Esbiloc is best. They were both good until yesterday. The female had a lot of yellow diarrhea and became limp. i immediately began giving her pedialyte and at first she would not even open her mouth or swallow the few drops I put in her. The drops ended up going down wrong since she made no effort to swallow and came out her nose. I held her upside down and let it drain and have been giving her pedialyte since 1 this morning. Ever since, she has been having a clicking noise from her nose/mouth on and off. Just recently she started sucking down the pedialyte (very weakly) and I was able to give her a very diluted Esbiloc and she slowly sucked down 1 1/2 cc's! YAY. As for the male, he has had a soft yellow stool, but nothing like the females. He has been pretty active also.

Can you order some good 1 cc syringes. 5 mL is much too
    large for these little ones.
Here's a great place. Are you using nipples?
If not they offer several kinds, many love the miracle nipples,
though the silicone ones are great too.

You will be able to be sure how much they should be eating with the scale too. It is really a must for proper feeding. That may answer the question about why they have soft stool too.

SammysMom, there are two threads they were on PetLac formula.
She is getting the powdered puppy esbilac.
BUT you are absolutely right, a scale is a must for proper feeding,
as the amount we feed is based on their weight.

I believe Cipro will work. Did anyone send you dosing info? If not, please give the mg of the pill. Are these little guys eyes open?

You need to purchase a scale from Walmart or Bed Bath and Beyond so you can weigh them daily to know how much you should feed them. The scale is about $20. You will feed 5-7% of their weight at each feeding.

No, there is no "reliable" way to measure her weight without a scale. A scale is a necessity and not an option.

She looks to be over 50grams (my estimate), which would mean a minimum of 2.5ML per feeding (every 4 hours).

What, exactly, is the strength of the Cipro you have? She will NEED a dose tonight... this is a critical, life-threatening situation as AP can kill very quickly she

Just bought a scale, she is right under 80g. The scale is not digital so should I just say between 60 and 80 grams just to be safe for dosing? Thanks!

Hi all, I now have my baby girl's weight and the Cipro on hand, if someone could please help me dose her! My scale is not digital so it was hard to tell, but she is between 60 and 80g. More towards 80, but still not sure just to be on the SAFE side for dosing. The Cipro is 500mg! I just fed her and she barely got down 1 cc of very diluted Esbiloc. Should I wait a certain amount of time before giving cipro or go ahead and give it to her (after someone doses her). Thanks in advance!
