    Default Not chewing

Hi there! I'm currently caring for two fox squirrels (9 weeks-11weeks) and one new Grey cat squirrel (around 3 weeks). I have put pieces of antlers, safe green tree limbs, and a sea shell in their habitat and I can't get the older two to chew on anything. I'm worried they won't be able to keep their teeth worn down if they don't start chewing! Is there anything specific I should try? They are still on fox valley formula, they right amount for their body weight. They get rodent blocks but they hate them. Luckily fox valley is sending a few samples of their products for them to try. And I give them a few soft fruits and vegetables daily for a snack. Any information is greatly appreciated!

Hi LaRae! I'd love to see photos of your babies.

I am new to rehabbing squirrels myself, so I'll let one of the more experienced members give chewing advice. I'm interested to hear what they say, thanks for asking.

Have you seen the diet for squirrels page? It might offer some help.

Hey there neighbor! Do they ever chew on the Bars of the cage? What about hard blocks? Even chewing on them? I know you mentioned they hate them. Have you tried doctoring them up?

Some things my youngin's like to chew on: toilet paper tube, maple twig with leaves intact, 1 paperback book (they got started on behind my back ), Saltine Crackers box, stuffed animals, dried out wood chews, my glasses and my fingernails.

I've tried to post pictures but I'm having trouble. They are so precious! They don't chew on anything, not the blocks, bars, and especially not the rodent blocks... I have tried doctoring them up a few different ways that I've heard of but they still won't touch them. I'm hoping the fox valley ones will be tastier for them. They are so picky! I've given them different branches, a paper towel tube, and a wood block. They just aren't having any of it!

  6. Serious fuzzy thank you's to LaRae95 from:
