    Default Sleepy/Diarrhea

My 8 week old foxer had the runs today. I'm pretty sure he overate a little because he didn't have anything abnormal (formula, henry's blocks, sweet potato, avocado, pecan). But now he has been sleeping all day when he is normally pretty active, and he wont come out of his cozy cube. If i try to pull him out he grunts and freaks out. He hasn't had diarrhea for over an hour already, but I am worried that he doesn't feel well. He almost seems scared of me. Any advice?

They do get that "scared" attitude when they are not feeling well...
What caused the diarrhea is the real issue, could he have got into anything else that he shouldn't have eaten?
Your are taking the peel off the avocado correct?
Anytime one deals with diarrhea they need to be offered hydration as diarrhea does dehydrate.

No peel on the avocado, just little chunks of the flesh. He didn't get into anything else, i'm sure of it. He drank a lot of water and a bit of formula, so I don't feel he is dehydrated. And the stool is thickening up a bit. Is there anything else I can do to help him feel better?

catmut, this has nothing to do with diarrhea but anytime I hear the word 'sleepy or lethargy' in a baby I always get concerned about aspiration of formula and possible aspiration pneumonia.

Let's just make sure this isn't something more. I would hate to be focused on diarrhea if something more serious is involved. Put your baby next to your ear and listen for clicking, even faint clicking. Hopefully there will be none and this is just an upset stomach causing this change in behavior.

By the way, they do get sorta 'spooky' around eight weeks old. It does pass.

Children's or infant's Imodium can help with the symptoms and maybe make him more comfortable.....I'd use it....but I'd really be worried about what caused it I have a squirrel who's 5 years old and she's had diarrhea once I don't know what caused it either....I would be looking for old veggies stashed in any hidey hole you know how they shove food anywhere they can squeeze it maybe he got a hold of something like that. I'd thoroughly clean his cage...and follow Step's advice on hydration etc.

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
