    Default Buprenex Dosing and Side Effects/Post-Operative Pain

    Hi,

    My 7-year-old squirrel just had surgery on his back molars, they filed them and cleaned things up (not sure if they pulled any, but they were "crumbling"). He's been given an antibiotic, plus Metacam to take once per day for pain and inflammation, and also Buprenex Oral for pain to take 3-4 times per day.

    Does anyone have dosing instructions for Buprenex, and also any serious side effects for us to look for? Vomiting? Breathing problems? He's only 396 grams and does not have much appetite, I'm also worried that he will eat even less on this medication. The vet has said to give him .03 cc, but I wanted to double-check with you because the vet's office has already made a mistake with medication.

    Hi Fuzzy's Mom! The vet gave you meds without dosing instructions? What is the strength of the med?
    I am NOT familiar with this med, but will see if I can find the dosing for you if I can.

    I was given this medication for Poppy after her surgery....it is a much stronger pain killer....she suffered no side effects....she was dosed twice a day for 3 days...sorry I'm not sure about dosage...the vet had her dosage in separate syringes (pre filled) but that sounds right because it is very strong, kin to morphine I believe

    I apologize, somehow I missed your info on weight and the vet's dosing. I did not find any information on dosing for oral medication.
