    Question Do singles get lonely?

Do you find that single squirrels get lonely? Dibbs seems a little lonely today. Eating normally. I have had to change his cage temporarily while we wait on delivery of his new larger cage. Any experiences with a "blue" 5 week old?

The little ones do much better with at least one other to grow up with and be released with.
You may decide to pass him on to a rehabber that can pair him with a friend for his journey or if you are confident and dedicated to raising the little one someone may have a big litter than can pass one to you to pair him with.

That said are you sure he is not sick in some way?
His behavior could mean that as well.

I see you've been very active on the boards learning so I'm assuming he's being fed the proper stuff. Esbilac with Probiotics.
You already know about listening for clicking when breathing as well?

I started with Esbilac with probiotics then moved to Valley Fox. Do you believe he needs continued probiotics at 5-6 weeks?

He was constipated yesterday, but better bowel movements today. I think I was an over protective care-giver. I have never experienced constipation with Opossum or birds. I have been trying to learn from the boards and I am a bit of a fanatic on research of those put in my care. I hope I don't bother folks with my questions!

As of right now, after a BM, squirrel block, he is now romping all around his cage. There is no signs of the clicking you mention and I have observed in videos. No eye/nose drainage. Clear skin/eyes. Good color. Increased appetite today. Weight gain adheres to recommended growth. No visible signs of illness. Perhaps he just needed that BM this morning.

I certainly do appreciate all the feedback and thoughtful questions. I need them to think outside the squirrel block!

The Fox Valley is 20/50 and not the 32/40, correct?

For what it is worth, many of us (including myself) are using using half FV 20/50 and half Esbilac starting around 5 weeks. If you still have the Esbilac you may consider this half-n-half combo as well.

I hate to threadjack but can you tell me the benefits of using half FV and esbilac Spanky?

I raised Jude and Judie on esbilac and I have little Toby on the FV 20/50 right now. Just wondering if I should half it with esbilac.

I am not sure there is a definitive advantage but I figured Mennome still had some Esbilac left since this is a singleton and this may be an opportunity to use it up. I moved from using just Esbilac last year and this Spring to the half-and-half this fall after seeing this suggested quite a lot on TSB the past few months. So far my results have been very good. Having said that, I know some are using only FV 20/50 with older kids and seeing good results. And others are using only Esbilac with good results.

I am not suggesting Toby would necessarily benefit from a switch at this point!

Yes, the 20/50. I admit....I am still using 25 % esbilac. He prefers it and I wanted the probiotic longer for him in case I had to treat him with antibiotics. I didnt know what he could break with.....Respiratory, diarrhea...etc. We are starting our third week and I had intended to decrease the esbilac again this weekend. I have encountered digestive issues in the past with Opossum, so I am a little slow to change formulas and want lots of enzymes on board before solids.

I may stay with my blend, as you suggest, to use up the esbilac since he is gaining well.

    For What it's worth....

Once there were issues with the Fox Valley that popped up we switched to the Esbilac with Probiotics exclusively.
We have not had a single issue with it.
