Ripped Toe Nail

Ziggy ripped her toe nail off. We tried cleaning it and dipping it in flour then wrapping it, but as soon as it stops, she starts it up again by running around and ripping her bandage off. It looks like she lost a good amount of blood and we're very worried. What can we do?

It looks like we got the blooding to slow. Should I just clip off the meat? I'm posting a picture.

She lost a lot of blood and her ears/paws are cold. She looks sleepy, but she seems alert.

To clarify, the hard outer shell (the nail) was ripped off, but the inside of the nail is still there.

Oh my goodness, NO don't clip off the flesh.
The blood should clot and the bleeding should stop.
I doubt she lost enough blood from a toe to be significantly 'down' on blood. I would not put a bandage on it because that will only make her go after it more.

Try to keep her calm and quiet. Is she tame? Will she let you hold her?

If she will let you hold her, I would wrap her in fleece and let her sleep. It is the middle of the day... they usually sleep during midday. If she's sleeping it will keep her mind off of the foot. Don't let her chew the foot.

Okay. We won't clip it, she keeps trying to chew. We've been holding her since we noticed the bleeding. She's tame. We're trying our best to clean it, but she keeps crying/squeezing every time we get too close. This is what it looks like now:

Toe nail cleaned, antibacterial ointment applied, now we're just trying to get her to hold still and go to sleep. She doesn't like it, but I think we found a way to compromise:

do toe nails grow back?

Sometimes yes ... sometimes no It depends on how bad the toe is injured.
If the nail bed is striped off of the toe, the nail won't grow back.
Most injuries would not be this bad and the nail will grow back.

A squirrel missing a nail won't have any problems at all. I have a flyer that's missing a couple toes and he does fine.
You wouldn't even notice the toes are missing.
